As we quickly make out way through the year, there are more and more festivals and major events popping up on the horizon, making us realise we’re actually pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to not just Melbourne festivals, but events across the entirety of Victoria. No matter what you’re into, there is bound to be a celebration for it coming up soon. We’ve also been noticing festival curators have been changing their formats in interesting ways after the last few years of very few, if any, public events to get excited about.

Melbourne events and festivals in July
Splendour in the Grass
The Splendour in the Grass 2023 lineup features Lizzo joined by Australian exclusive shows from Flume and Mumford & Sons, plus Lewis Capaldi, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, J Balvin and more.
Splendour in the Grass is happening at North Byron Parklands from July 19 to 23.
Replay Festival
Missed out on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival? Don’t fret, the Replay Festival is bringing the best of the fest for one last run. Happening at Comedy Republic, you’ll have the chance to see Hannah Camilleri, Greg Larsen, Guy Montgomery, Guy Williams, Michelle Brasier, Lizzy Hoo, and others.

Melbourne Tartan Festival
Brought to Melbourne by the Victorian Scottish Heritage Cultural Foundation and Scots of Victoria Co-ordinating Group, the Melbourne Tartan Festival celebrates the best of Scottish culture. There’s a variety of events on offer, including a Pipe Band Parade, Gala Dinner and concert, as well as a Ceilidh Dance.

Metro Comic-Con
Yet another Comic-Con is making its way to Melbourne shores this month. Metro Comic-Con is a new event, featuring all the usual Comic-Con fun, like cosplay, signings, and more comic books than you can shake a lightsaber at. On top of all that, there’s set to be appearances from actors like Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy), Dee Wallace (ET), and Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things).

Melbourne Magic Festival
A celebration of the mystic arts is on its way to Melbourne this July, with the Melbourne Magic Festival. It’s taking place across Melbourne until July 8, and features a bevy of talented sleight of hand masters and illusionists, such as Mario Lopez, Tim Credible, and Nicholas Johnson. There’s also set to be lectures, so you can learn the craft and have your own show for next year’s Melbourne Magic Festival.

African Festival Melbourne
Melbourne’s a wonderful melting pot of different cultures, there’s never a week without a festival inspired by another country. A new one’s happening this July, with the African Festival, a two day journey of African food, music, and shopping. Best of all, in this time of rising costs, you can enjoy most of the festival for free.
The African Festival Melbourne is happening from July 15 until July 16
Leaps and Bounds Festival
Just because its winter, doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of music festivals happening. Leaps and Bounds festival returns this year with a bang, with Melbourne lighting up with a variety of interesting events. There’s an industry day, a showing of the hit Gurrumul documentary, performances from Emma Donovan, The Maggie Pills, and Tony Allen, as well as Record Store Fairs.

Melbourne Elvis Festival
It seems like we can get enough of The King lately, you’d be hard pressed to find a month without a celebration of Elvis. A new one is heading to the Thornbury Theatre late this July, a bevy of events inspired by each of The King’s eras, everything from the ‘73 sessions to his Vegas residency. Four internationals will be performing; Bill Cherry, Jay Dupus, Dwight Icenhower and Emilio Santora.

Blobfish Beer Festival
It can’t be a Melbourne festival list without a beer celebration. Happening at the Meat Market, the Blobfish Festival features the best sour, weird, and wonderful beers. Your all-inclusive ticket gets you tasters of all beers on offer, free glass, and a beer guide. There’s also set to be DJs soundtracking the day, and a bunch of food trucks perfect for pairing.

Music Festivals
Rising Festival
Contemporary art, ice skating and kazoo concertos: RISING graces Melbourne this June
It’s back, the festival that brings the new and interesting to our stages returns in 2023, kicking off this June 7. There’s set to be a plethora of different event on offer, with gigs from artists such as Ethel Cain, Thundercat and Weyes Blood happening throughout the month. Subculture Festival
The Subculture Festival brings a bevy of trance and electronic acts to Melbourne, hitting the Grand Pavilion showgrounds, there’ll be music from internationals such as Billy Gillies, Bryan Kearney, Craig Connelly, and Mark Sherry, among many more.
Easylover – One Day Mini Festival
Coming to us thanks to the legends in Slowly Slowly, this mini festival is taking over the Northcote Theatre. The day kicks off at 4:40, and provides attendees with a number of the best rock music this side of the equator. In order of play, you can catch Ok Hotel, Friends of Friends, Bakers Eddy, Press Club, Between You and Me, Yours Truly, and of course Slowly Slowly in the headlining spot.
Melbourne International Singers Festival
The Melbourne International Singers Festival features a bevy of talented vocalists and choirs, including Paul Jarman, Women’s Festival Choir, The Velvetones, and many more. Festival of Chamber Music
Now for something outside of the city centre, the Festival of Chamber Music is taking place at St John’s in Camberwell. Mornington Winter Music Festival
As the weather starts to cool down over these Winter months, it’s time to get indoors and catch live music. There’s too many gigs happening at the Mornington Winter Music Festival to list, but a number of the favourites include Taylah Carroll, CC Goons, Lilly Clancy Duo, and Coco Michelle, among many more. Donut Festival
Yes, a festival celebrating the round dough balls that have given many of us delight. If you’re a fan, this is the festival for you.
Winter Wine Fest 2023
It wouldn’t be a festival list without a celebration of grape juice. Taking over the beautiful Mornington Peninsula Wine region, you’ll be able to try a variety of different wines, and maybe even find your new favourite. For the ticket price, you get three entrees, wine tastings, a tasting book, and a glass.
Arts and Culture Festivals
Winter Night Market
Who said that cold weather means there’s nothing happening? Many of our local landmarks are leaning into the cooler weather, with seasonal events that garner a lot of attention from locals and tourists alike. One is happening at the Queen Vic Market, the Winter Night Market brings a new life to the space.
Spanish Film Festival
Yet another international film festival is taking place on our screens this June, the Spanish Film Festival bringing us a selection of 32 films from their country. A few local cinemas are taking place, including the Palace in Balwyn, The Astor in St Kilda, and The Palace Cinema Como in South Yarra, among many more.
Williamstown Literary Festival
This festival celebrates all things books, authors, and readers, and gives attendees a further look into the books that made an impact on them. There’s due to be a number of guests in attendance, including Amelia Mellor, Anne Casey Hardy, and Paul Dalgarno, among many more which you can check out here.
East Gippsland Winter Festival
There’s a huge art and culture festival coming to East Gippsland this winter
Taking over the stunning Gippsland region, the East Gippsland Winter Festival is back for 2023. You’ll be able to experience a month long celebration of what makes the region special, there’s a bit of everything on offer, from local art, to food vendors, and nature. Oz Comicon
It’s getting to that time of year, there’s a variety of niche exhibitions and festivals happening around our grounds, you’re bound to find something up your alley. The Oz Comicon hits the MCEC this June, where you’ll get to hear from stars like Caity Lotz, John Noble and Juliana Harkavy, as well as comic illustrators/writers from Australia and abroad. World Bachata Festival
Bachata is a popular type of Dominican dance, and Melbourne is celebrating it with a festival this June. The World Bachata Festival features local and international DJs, workshops, and much more. Glow Winter Arts Festival
Found in Central Park, Malvern, the Flow Festival brings stunning artwork to the suburbs. The commissioned works will illuminate each night, there’ll be monsters, trees, moons, and more. It’s perfect for the whole family too. Get your Instagram ready and head to the festival between Thursday June 15 and Sunday June 18.
Melbourne Magic Festival
Yet another niche festival making its way to Melbourne this month, as the name suggests, the Melbourne Magic Festival dives into all things sleight of hand, illusions, and more. A featured performer is Mario Lopez, who was one of few magicians to fool Penn and Teller on the hit show Penn and Teller Fool Us.
St Kilda Film Festival
It’s everyone’s favourite film festival, and it’s happening right now. The St Kilda Film Festival returns for 2023, and will feature premieres, special events, showcases, and more. The highlighted events include the Award Winners Screening, the Made in VIC, the Galup VR Experience, and the music based movie, Gravel Road.
Newport Folk Festival
Folk fans unite! There’s a festival celebrating your favourite genre happening this June. There’s more performers than you can shake a stick at, such as Dave Wright & The Midnight Ramblers, Queens of the West, Newport Folk and Fiddle Group Beginners Playalong, and The Drongo and The Crow, among many more.
Kite Flying Festival
It’s not a joke, that’s actually a festival dedicated to kite flying. Tickets are only $3, and the event will feature merchandise, food, drinks, music, jumping castles, and much more. You can check out additional info on the Kite Flying Festival here.
Woodend Winter Arts Festival
Now celebrating almost 20 years, the Woodend Winter Arts Festival is back for 2023. Hitting the Macedon Ranges, there’s going to be music in the classical, jazz, and world genres, as well as educational programs, events, around 30 events will be taking place over the long weekend.
Mind Body Spirit Festival
Everyone’s favourite wellbeing expo is back – taking over the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre this June, there’ll be around 200 exhibitions, and interactive experiences like meditations centres and psychic readings. It hits the MCEC from Friday June 9 until Monday June 12.
Dragon Boat Festival
Australia and Melbourne are melting pots of different backgrounds, each month there’s a celebration of a specific area of culture. One is coming to Melbourne this June, with the Dragon Boat Festival. The festival is set to teach attendees how to make sticky rice cakes, and teach about the Dragon Boat Festival.

The World is A Vampire
Smashing Pumpkins World Is A Vampire Festival set times are here
Happening on both Saturday April 22 and Thursday April 27, The World is A Vampire festival will be making its debut at Port Melbourne’s PICA. There’ll be wrestling taking place, alongside music from Amyl and The Sniffers, Jane’s Addiction, and of course The Smashing Pumpkins. It’s set to be a massive day of music and activities, make sure you grab your tickets now.
Boogie Festival
Boogie Festival 2023 announce set times, new artists, bonus events and more
This year, the Boogie Festival will be happening from April 7 until April 9. Yet another iconic Victorian festival is happening this April. The family friendly festival has something for everyone. 2023’s festival will feature the Private Function, The Counterfeits’ Wild West Show Featuring Freya Josephine Hollick, among many more.
Bluesfest Melbourne
We’re getting our own version of the popular festival that takes over Byron Bay each Easter, happening at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre this weekend, you’ll be able to experience music from artists including The Doobie Brothers, John Butler, Buddy Guy, Paolo Nutini, and many others.
Pure Festival
Happening this year on April 23, the Pure Festival brings much missed Summer vibes to the Timber Yard, with a selection of our best electronic music performers. Sunset Sounds
Taking place this Saturday, April 8, on Easter Weekend in Torquay, Sunset Sounds is back with a bang, featuring music from icons from across our country, such as Daryl Braithwaite, The Black Sorrows, Russel Morris, Richard Clapton, Ross Wilson, , and many more. On top of that, it’s a stones throw from the beach, so you’ll be able to make a weekend out of it.
Ultra Australia
Hardwell, Darren Styles, Timmy Trumpet lead Ultra Australia 2023
Yet another huge electronic music festival is happening in Melbourne this April. Happening on the 15th at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, there’ll be music from massive acts such as Darren Styles, Timmy Trumpet, Deborah De Luca, Hardwell and Sub Zero Project, among plenty of others that are more local, check out the entire lineup over on their website here.
Daydream Festival
Modest Mouse, Slowdive are headlining new indie Daydream festival this April
There are not too many huge festivals out there any more, with touring companies favouring niche festivals, as seen with the upcoming Daydream Festival, taking place at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl this April 22, before hitting the road across Australia. There’ll be music from Majak Door, Cloud Nothings, Beach Fossils, Tropical Fuck Storm, Slowdive, and will be headlined by the popular Modest Mouse. Gippsland Country Music Festival
If you’re keen for a bit of a drive, head to the Gippsland Country Music Festival and see music from Australian icons like Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar Daley, Adam Brand, Beccy Cole, and plenty more. The Gippsland Country Music Festival is happening on Saturday April 22 in Lardner Park, Gippsland, an easy 90 minute drive from Melbourne’s CBD.
Far East Music Festival
Things of Stone and Wood, MpathSoul and more join Far East Music Festival lineup
This festival was erected out of the “ashes of a black summer”, and is set to breathe life back into the town of Mallacoota, Victoria. Happening over this Easter weekend (April 7 until April 9), this festival will focus more on an intimate experience, you won’t find a festival like this out there. There’ll be a selection of incredibly talented musicians on offer, such as Bones and Jones, Tomasi, The Grogans, Kutcha Edwards, Things of Stone and Wood, Delsinki, and many more. On top of that, there’s set to be activities for the while family to enjoy, such as drama games, yoga, and face painting. Newport Jazz Festival
If there’s been nothing on this list up your alley so far, the Newport Jazz festival is the choice for you. Taking over various venues across the Newport region, you’ll be able to catch music from local jazz legends such as Bop Till Ya Drop, Port Phillip Show Band, and plenty more.
Dreamstate Festival
If you’re a techno fan, April is the month for you, yet another electronic music is taking place in Melbourne this April 22 at the Flemington Racecourse. There’ll be music from artists such as Ben Nicky, Blastoyz, Ciaran Mcauley, Cosmic Gate, Infected Mushroom, Maddix, and plenty more. Healesville Music Festival
As the name suggests, the Healesville Music Festival will be gracing the little town of Healesville this April 14 until April 16. You can enjoy the weekend by pitching a tent, diving into a selection of the region’s tastiest wine and beer, and check out music from artists like Soulsville, Nigel Wearne, Girl Friday and The Sepia Tones, Lachlan Bryan and The Wildes, and will be headlined Hannah Aldridge, who will be coming from the US.
Groovin the Moo
After returning for the first time in two years last year, hitting up Maitland, Canberra and Bendigo, Groovin The Moo (GTM) returns for 2023, taking to six regions across the country, visiting Wayville, Maitland, Canberra, Bendigo, Warana and Bunbury. The one-day festival will head to Bendigo in Victoria on April 29.
Inner Varnika
After 10 years of DIY, community building and carefully curated lineups, the beloved dance party is hanging up its boots. We hate goodbyes. And when it comes to saying goodbye to local festivals, especially those with a reputation as raucous as Inner Varnika… well, we hate that even more. The independent music festival, located three hours out of Melbourne in Booker, Victoria, has been an Easter Weekend highlight for the past nine years. This April, when the party celebrates its 10th anniversary, it’ll also be its last.

Flickerfest
Flickerfest is bringing its Best Of Melbourne shorts home to Kino Palace cinemas for one night only
Kino Palace cinemas are set to come alive as Flickerfest returns for the 17th year with their Best of Melbourne Shorts on Wednesday, April 12 at 7 pm. This BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying festival is celebrating its 32nd year in 2023, presenting A-list short films selected from over 3200 entries.
German Film Festival
From Christiane F to B-Movie, the 2023 German Film Festival is packed with classics
In collaboration with German Films, Palace presents the 2023 German Film Festival with a stunning film lineup including key selections direct from the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival (The Berlinale), a music-themed retrospective, a focus on female filmmakers and the family sidebar Kino for Kids.
The South African Film Festival
The South African Film Festival returns to the Ritz for Classic Cinemas this May 4 -11. The festival is a not-for-profit event organised by passionate volunteers to celebrate the diversity, complexity and creativity of contemporary South African cinema and identity. The net proceeds from the festival support Education without Borders (EwB), which provides educational opportunities for disadvantaged young people in South Africa.
Alliance Francaise Film Festival
The Alliance Française Film Festival has revealed its glorious 2023 program
Calling all film fanatics: the Alliance Française French Film Festival has answered our pleas by revealing their full 2023 program. Screening a whopping 39 feature films across seven participating Melbourne cinemas, this year’s iteration of the festival is shaping up to be a real treat. Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the festival that will take over various cinemas across Melbourne from March 8 until April 5.
Fantastic Film Festival
Taking place from April 14 until April 30, the popular Fantastic Film Festival will be hitting Hawthorn’s Lido Cinema. There’s set to be a selection of interesting films on offer, including movies such as Polite Society, Holy Shit!, and Evil Dead Rise, among many more.
The ReelGood Film Festival
It’s the perfect time to be local to Hawthorn, with yet another film festival taking place at the popular Lido Cinema. Happening on April 22, the ReelGood film festival includes short films, with breaks in between, where audiences are invited onto the Lido Rooftop to chat about film, get to know each other and enjoy killer snacks and drinks alongside DJ music. Melbourne International Comedy Festival
Kicking off from March 29. one of the world’s biggest comedy festivals is here. Each year, thousands of comedy fans head to our many stages, bars, and pubs, to check out the best up and comers and icons in the world of comedy, there’ll be stars from the best UK panel shows and stand-up comedy specials.
Cultural Festivals
Sri Lankan New Year Festival
Melbourne’s a great melting pot of a variety of different cultures and backgrounds, each bleeding into our nightlife, and making Melbourne one of the most enjoyable cities to get out and experience things. Quite often there’s a celebration of one of these cultures, with one taking place this April, the Sri Lankan New Year festival happening at Queen Vic Market.
Food and Drink Festivals
April Food Festival
This festival couldn’t be more suited for this section of the list. Happening at the Peter Scullin Reservation in Mordiallic this Sunday, April 9, attendees will be able to enjoy a significant amount of food from food trucks, shops, and easter games for the entire family to enjoy.
Little Food Festival
There are set to be school holidays coming up in Melbourne very soon, meaning there’ll be events happening across Melbourne for the entire family to enjoy. There’s one taking place on April 19, the Little Food Festival will teach about the future of food – hoping we can move into a time where we leave the kids better off.
55th Finnish Festival Dinner Dance
Happening in Altona this Saturday, April 8, the Finnish Festival Dinner Dance will include tasty local cuisines, dancing, live music, and plenty more, if you’ve got Finnish heritage, it’s the festival for you. Tickets start from $45, and will feature an incredible 3 course meal.

Brunswick Music Festival
Brunswick Music Festival’s first week will bring two huge, free shows to the north
Happening from March 9 until March 13, the Brunswick Music Festival brings the best lesser-known performers to our shores. This year, you can catch performers like Startjenn, Crumb, David M Western, and many more. It’s one of those festivals that’ll let you catch bands before they become the next big thing, so make sure you get on this one.
Port Fairy Folk Festival
The Port Fairy Folk Festival reveals its third round of artists
This year, the Port Fairy Folk Festival is happening from March 10 until March 13. Yet another iconic Victorian festival is happening this March. The family friendly festival has something for everyone. 2023’s festival will feature the Andrew Gurruwiwi Band, the Blue Moon Marquee, Dani Larkin, Eastbound Buzz, and Eric Bibb, among many more.
Coastal Jam 2023
Happening in the popular meccas of Geelong and Mornington, this is a fun festival to enjoy while they weather is still a little bit warm. There’ll be music from artists such as Ziggy Alberts, Hockey Dad, Latifa Tee, Dean Turnley, and plenty more. It’s set to take over Rosebud’s Village Green and Geelong’s Cunningham Pier over Labour Day weekend.
Dreamland Theme Park
Happening on March 12, Dreamland Theme Park will be one of the last festivals with summer vibes before the weather cools down. There’s nothing fancier than a festival that takes place in a location you wouldn’t expect, like a theme park. Dreamland Theme Park Music Festival returns to Luna Park, and will feature artists such as Lockdown, Kaos, and Bread Gang.
Pitch Music and Arts
Pitch music festival 2023 lineup led by Four Tet, Moderat, Nightmares on Wax
Taking place from March 10 until March 14 in Moyston, Pitch Music and Arts is back with a bang, featuring music from icons from across the world, such as Bradley Zero, BIG WETT, Four Tet, Interplanetary Criminal, Mano Le Tough, and many more. On top of that, there’ll be many other events and installations on the site, so there’s more than music.
Hilltop Hoods, Broods, SHOUSE, DZ Deathrays and more join Ability Fest lineup
Ability Fest is the brainchild of local legend Dylan Alcott and his Dylan Alcott Foundation, who made this one of the most accessible festivals across the country. Happening at Birrarung Marr, this year’s festival will include music from Alex Lahey, The Journey, Sampa The Great, Hilltop Hoods, Daine, and many more, check out the full line-up here.
Wildflower Festival
Unfortunately, still in 2023, women make up a surprisingly low number of festival line-ups, so it’s good to see a festival like Wildflower pop up, featuring the most talented women in the world of local music. The lineup includes Missy Higgins, Kasey Chambers, Kate Miller-Heidke, Sarah Blasko, Vikki Thorn, Deborah Conway and Alice Skye. Wildflower Festival is happening in the Yarra Valley on March 12
Tent Pole Festival
Tent Pole expands 2023 lineup with international acts and local heroes
A massive rock celebration is happening at Mt Duneed Estate, featuring music from Pavement, Black Lips, CLAMM, Magic Dirt, Sirens, Spiderbait, The Schizophonics, The Prize, MOD CON, Floodlights, Charley Crockett, and Jerikye Williams. Tent Pole Festival is happening on March 12.
Yackandandah Folk Festival
If you’re keen for a bit of a drive, head to the Yackandandah Folk Festival and see music from John Smith, The Burning Hall, and plenty more. Yackandandah Folk Festival is happening from March 24 until March 26 in Yackandandah, an easy 3 and a half hour drive from Melbourne’s CBD.
Meadow Festival
Meadow Festival: A beautiful, intimate and BYO weekend of live music and camping
If you’re not a fan of those festivals with many massive stages, Meadow is the festival for you, featuring music from artists like Black Midi and Jen Cloher, and the Meadow Festival is happening from March 31 in Bambra, which is around 90 minutes South of Melbourne. To top it off, Meadow is a festival that runs ith no commercial food trucks, everything on offer at Meadow supports the broader community and businesses.
Live at Warrawee
Live music and outdoor vibes: Live at Warrawee is bringing a huge concert to the suburbs
Now one for all the suburbanites, Live at Warrawee is happening in Oakleigh on March 18, and will feature amazing live music, food trucks, bars, and lots more. Knotfest

Australia doesn’t have too many international metal festivals any more, so it’s exciting to see a brand new one make its way to our shores this March. The popular festival has sold out grounds across the world, and now it’s Melbourne’s turn. It’ll feature music from artists like Slipknot, Megadeth and Trivium. Knotfest is happening on March 24.
Golden Plains
Golden Plains adds more acts to the sold out 2023 festival lineup
It’s the festival that has featured music from the industry’s biggest names – Ween, Mogwai, Dinosaur Jr, and Public enemy, and it’s back for a 2023 edition. Happening at the popular Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, Golden Plains returns for a massive 2023 show, where you’ll see music from Bikini Kill and Carly Rae Jepsen among many more. Hello Sunshine is a brand-new festival happening in the suburbs of Melbourne, at the site of the former Caribbean Gardens. Piknic Electronik
It’s that time of the year again when the best performers in the world of electronic music grace the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl for a months long celebration of the genre. February’s incarnation will feature music from Reinier Zonneveld, Kiki Solvej, Rory Marshall, Paul Abad, Lisa May, Emanni, Dagu, and Acid Baby. It’s taking place on Sunday February 19.
Ninchfest
While it’s still beaching weather, why not head down to the stunning Mornington Peninsula for the popular Ninchfest? It’s going to feature awesome names too, you’ll be able to catch music from such performers as Freya Josephine Hollick, the Double Agents, and William Creighton, among many more.

Alongside the Live At The Bowl festival series comes the Summer Sounds festival, a collection of the biggest names in Australian music, alongside up and comers that are set to be household names in the future. February’s incarnation will feature music from King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Tropical Fuck Storm, and The Murlocs as well as another performance featuring Bernard fanning, Something For Kate, Didirri, and Mia Wray.
Down South Festival
Bad//Dreems, C.O.F.F.I.N lead one-day Port Fairy festival Down South 2023
As the name suggests, attendance to this festival requires a trip down south. Taking place in Port Fairy’s Star of The West Hotel, the Down South Festival is in its second year, with last year’s show being headlined by the iconic Amyl and The Sniffers. This years will live up to that, featuring music from a selection of Victorian artists, like CIVIC, So.Crates, and Queenie to name a few. The Down South Festival is taking place in Port Fairy’s Star of the West Hotel on Saturday February 25.
Now and Again
Much like menus at restaurants, less is more when it comes to music festivals. Now and Again features 14 performers, across two stages, representing the best in local music. There’s music from legends like Becca Hatch, Peach PRC, and Casey Leaver, and on the other end, there’s music from Tones and I, Gang of Youths, and headliners Empire of The Sun.
Laneway Festival
One of Australia’s most popular festivals is back, and it’s coming in big. Laneway Festival will feature a selection of the best artists both in contemporary and indie scenes, involved artists include Haim, Phoebe Bridgers, Finneas, Fred Again, The Beths, and plenty more, traversing many different genres. On top of that, there’ll be tasty food, drinks, and merch all available, to make sure it’s a fun experience. Laneway Festival is taking place at the The Park in Flemington on Saturday February 11.
St Kilda Festival
One of Melbourne’s festival staples is the St Kilda Festival, hitting Melbourne many times of the years. It’s a free event, showcasing a selection of our most talented artists. You’ll be able to experience music from Peptalk, Guthrie, Emma Volard, Hoodoo Gurus, Confidence Man, and many many more. Of course the fun doesn’t end there, you can dice into food, market stalls, dancing, activations, and lots more. The St Kilda Festival is taking place in St Kilda on Saturday February 18 until Sunday February 19.
Nightjar Festival
A month after taking place in Torquay, the Nightjar festival will be taking place in Geelong this month. If you haven’t heard of it, the Nightjar festival is set to appeal to all types of entertainment lovers, with food, music, stalls, and much more. 2023’s Geelong incarnation of the festival will include music from such artists as The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra, The Old Married Couple, Rach Brennan and The Pines, and many more.

Happening in Echuca – Moama this February is the Riverboats Music Festival, a collection of the best in Australian music. Meeniyan Garlic Festival
Are you a lover of garlic? Or do you not care how your breath smells? Then the Meeniyan Garlic Festival is the rvent for you. There’ll be a number of the best name in the world of garlic, including chefs, farmers, and restaurants. To top off what’s already bound to be a fun day out, there’s be a number of killer bands performing too. The Meeniyan Garlic Festival will be happening on Saturday February 18.
Melbourne Beerfest
Keen to have a pint? Look no further than the Melbourne Beerfest, coming to the Catani Gardens in St Kilda this February. There’ll be lots to do, you can dive into delicious craft beer, wine, cider and cocktails, learn more about beer with masterclasses and food pairing, and even top it all off with live music and comedy from Luke McGregor, Alex Ward, Brett Blake, and Emma Holland. Melbourne Beerfest is taking place at the Catani Gardens on Saturday, February 25.

Lonsdale St Festival / Antipodes Festival
If you’re a local to Lonsdale St and its surrounds, there’s no doubt you would’ve come across this festival, perhaps known as the Antipodes Festival. The festival will feature enjoyable Greek inspired additions, there’ll be everything from kids activities, food, drinks, and plenty more.
Dragon Boat Festival
A celebration of culture is coming to Melbourne this February, this time celebrating all things Chinese. 2023’s incarnation of the popular Dragon Boat Festival will feature food trucks, lion dancing, and plenty more, you’re bound to find something up your alley. The Dragon Boat is taking place at the Harbour Esplanade on Sunday, February 19.
Midsumma
If you haven’t come across Midsumma before, they are Australia’s most well-known queer arts organisations, putting on shows of all different shapes and sizes over the years. It’s coming back to Melbourne this February, with many events, spanning plays, musicals, parties, drag, comedy, and plenty more. If you’re not keen to spend too much money on a Midsumma event, there’s also free performances too. Midsumma is taking places throughout Melbourne until February 12.
National Sustainable Living Festival
We’re getting to a good point in the world, where many are trying to help out the environment, changing little things in their lives to make sure things will get better for future generations. This festival will dive into the sustainable living world, and will do that through spreading the word about social and ecological sustainability. It also will reference current technological advancements in the world, and how sustainability can keep up. The National Sustainable Living Festival is taking place in Melbourne throughout February.

Falls Festival
Falls Festival 2022/23 guide: Full lineup, dates, locations, ticket prices and more
Usually held in the regional music mecca of Lorne, this year’s incarnation of the Falls festival will be making its way into Melbourne city this year. Besides camping, expect all your favourite things about Falls, but just a little bit toned down. International artists include Arctic Monkeys, Lil Nas X, and Jamie XX, and the strong local line-up features Beddy Rays, King Stingray and Telenova, among many more.
Good Things
It’s been a minute since we’ve had a full blown international heavy metal festival hit our shores. Good Things is a new music extravaganza hitting the Flemington Racecourse. There’ll be a spread of genres with artists like Deftones, TISM, Gojira, and Regurgitator appearing, among many more.
Knight and Day Festival
Parkway Drive, Polaris, Alex Lahey headline new Knight and Day Festival
Another huge rock and metal festival will be coming to the region this December, the Knight and Day festival taking place at the Kryal Castle in Ballarat. You can catch music from local legends like The Chats, Alex Lahey, Thy Art is Murder, and many more.
Carols by Candlelight
It’s hard to believe we’re already well and truly in December, it’s less than three weeks before Christmas comes around. To bring in the day of gift giving, the Carols by Candlelight festival has been a staple of Melbourne for decades. You can catch this in person on December 24 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, or on Channel 9, airing live
Bluestone Blues Festival
If you’ve never been able to find an NYE festival that has music to your liking, the Bluestone Blues Festival may be your cup of tea. There’ll be music from a collection of the most renowned local blues performers, like Sammy Owen and Geoff Achison to name a few.
LUFT Festival
Another music festival is making its way to Melbourne this December, the LUFT Festival brings a different sort of experience, immersing audiences in the music. Involved artists include Alex Stein, Kuniyuki Takahashi, Township Rebellion, and many more.

As the year draws to a close, there’s end of year festivals and wrap-up events happening across Melbourne’s stages. Meredith Music Festival
One of Australia’s favourite music festivals is coming this December, the Meredith Music Festival returns after a few years out of action. It’ll feature bands of past and present; such as Yothu Yindi, Caribou, Private Function, Babe Rainbow and Dry Cleaning.
Beyond The Valley
After a toned-down 2021 version renamed Beyond The City, Beyond The Valley is back in full swing at Barunah Plains. You can catch artists such as Denzel Curry, Nelly Furtado, Benee, Yeat, and many more.
Spilt Milk
Another music festival will be hitting Victoria this month; Spilt Milk will be returning after a few years out of action for obvious reasons. This year’s incarnation will feature music from internationals like Steve Lacy, and locals like Telenova, Genesis Owusu and G Flip.

As the weather (hopefully) warms up over the next little bit, there’s a bunch of outdoor festivals on the horizon, one of which is taking place in Phillip Island this December, Ocean Sounds is an all-Australian affair, headlined by Tash Sultana.
Sounds on The Terrace
Taking place at the surrounds of the Gasworks theatre in Melbourne, this is a series of shows kicking off in December, lasting throughout Summer. Wild Horses
Hitting stages in Carapooee West this December is the Wild Horses Festival, a celebration of music, arts and nature. It’s a three-day festival set to be an experience – with tickets only limited to 2000 people, you’ll be sure you can get up close and personal to the music. There’ll be music from artists like Atia, Martian Arts, and Synthtik Chaos, among many more.

Festival X
Festival X expands its 2022 lineup with additional international and homegrown talent
Summer festivals are coming back with a bang in 2022, kicking off with Festival X, featuring a number of the best artists who have graced the hip hop and dance worlds over the last decade. Featured artists include Calvin Harris, Megan Thee Stallion, and Luude, among many more talented rappers and electronic music performers. Festival X is taking place at Flemington Racecourse on November 26.
Chapterfest 30 2022
Hitting the brand-new Northcote Theatre is Chapterfest30, celebrating the music of Chapter Music, one of Australia’s most popular record labels. They are celebrating their 30th birthday with this festival, which will feature music from artists new and old from the Chapter Music Family, all the involved artists are; Laura Jean, The Cannanes, Essendon Airport (who will be reuniting at this festival), Sweet Whirl, The Native Cats, Gregor, Teether and Kuyar Neil and No Zu.
Euroa Festival
This festival will require a bit of a journey outside of the city circle, but once you see the lineup, you’ll be planning your trip to Euroa. You’ll be able to catch music from stars such as Angie Mcmahon, Dallas Woods, Bad Pony, and Teenage Dads, among many more. On top of that, there’ll be a lot of other things happening on the festival grounds that’ll make the trip worth it.

Woodstock Relived is taking place at Morris Moor on November 26.

The QMF is finally back, bringing back good music and good vibes to the region. There’s a one day music festival taking over Abbotsford in November

The Carlton Brewhouse Record Fair is taking place at the Carlton Brewhouse on November 13.

Now in its fifth year, the East Malvern Food and Wine Festival returns to the region that has featured a deal of the world’s nicest wineries and food vendors. It’s a free event, but there’ll be extended Premium tickets for a cost, including branded wine glasses and tastings. On top of that, there’ll be a selection of performances from local talent. East Malvern Food and Wine Festival is taking place at Central Park on November 20.

Willamstown Heritage Beer and Cider Festival 2022
You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who dislikes both Beer and Cider, so this festival has something for everyone. The Williamstown Beer and Cider Festival features around 100 beers and ciders from a number of local independent breweries, including The Mill, Bonehead, Bentspoke Brewing Co, Bathtub Gin Co Distillery, and many more.

Sense Festival
The Sense Festival explores the space of sexuality in this day and age, while also diving into the world of intimacy and sensuality. The Sense Festival is said to help you find the tools to get a better understanding of not just sex, but your life as a whole. It’s coming to Brunswick courtesy of experienced sex educators, Elisa Ricordi and Luna Darling. The Sense Festival is taking place at the Moss Studios in Brunswick on November 5 until November 6.
Compello Festival of Cars
As the name suggests, this festival is dedicated to all things cars. There’ll be around 150 vehicles on show at this year’s festival, alongside a bunch of exhibitors and stalls where you can purchase merch. When the festival ends, attendees will get to see their favourite cars on the road as the vehicles leave the showroom. Of course, there’ll be tasty food and drink on site too, so you can make a day out of it. It’s happening on November 20.
Mind Body Spirit Festival
This festival is one of Melbourne’s most popular festivals, having taken over the Melbourne Exhibition Centre for many years now. There’ll be around 200 vendors of health and wellbeing-related items and services, so you’ll be able to find something that’ll be up your alley. The Mind Body Spirit Festival is taking place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from November 11 until November 13.
Mountain Writers Festival
This two-day festival will focus on authors of mountain-related materials, specifically those fiction and non-fiction writers of all things in the regional world, environments, nature, and plenty more. There’ll be storytelling, speeches, and much more, all held in the region they talk about. The Mountain Writers Festival is taking place in Macedon from November 4 until November 6.
Rotary Eltham Festival

Melbourne International Jazz Festival
It’s finally back, and in full swing. Jazz stars from Australia and abroad will be hitting our stages with their unique virtuosic talents and original music. A selection of the highlighted performers include Lalah Hathaway (performing music of her father, Donny Hathaway), Mononeon and local performers like Emma Donovan and Ex-Olympian. Grapevine Gathering
If you’re after a premium festival experience, look no further than Grapevine Gathering, a festival taking place inside a winery. Melbourne’s incarnation will be at the popular Rochford Wines, so you can enjoy a glass of their award winning Cab Sauv while you enjoy music from groups such as The Kooks, Peking Duk, Ball Park Music, and plenty more. CVLTFest
Metal’s newest festival is headbanging into Melbourne this October, and it’s called CVLTfest. There’ll be talented local and international groups on offer, to name a few, Alpha Wolf, DEEZ Nuts and Currents. Pull Up Selector Festival
Another interesting music festival is coming to Melbourne this October, this time taking influence from reggae music. There’ll be music from Cecile and Dynamq, among many more that you can check out here. Free The Noise
Hitting The Industrique this October is the Free the Noise festival, focusing on electronic and techno music from local and international musos. Luliepalooza

West Set Festival
If you’re not looking to spend any money, but still want to get a taste of festivals, West Set festival is a free celebration of music. It’s time again for the wacky and wonderful to be gracing our stages courtesy of the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Alter State

Dog Lovers Show

Stringybark Festival

Halloweenfest Melbourne 2022
It might be an American holiday, but over the last few years, it’s been getting bigger and bigger here in Melbourne. Honourable Mention: The Victorian Salami Festival
It may require a little bit of a venture outside of the Melbourne city circle, but this festival is an honourable mention. Listen Out
International festivals have well and truly made their return to Australia, with Listen Out happening this September. There are some great internationals and locals involved, to name a few, the lineup features internationals like AJ Tracey, Doechii and Tove Lo, on top of a stacked local lineup with legends like Stace Cadet and The Jungle Giants. As the weather starts to warm up, the time for some great tequila is here. There’ll be presenters on show, sharing their extensive knowledge of the world of tequila and mezcal. With tastings taking place in an old tram, it’s an experience that doesn’t come along too often. If you’re a tequila expert, be prepared to be blown away with the rare finds that will be available. Winter Night Market
It’s hard to believe we’ve only got one more month of winter, but that means we get one more month of Queen Vic’s Winter Night Market. It’s been one of the most popular spots over the last few months, with attendees loving the great food and entertainment.

Lunaverse
This is the perfect type of festival for these warmer months, some of Melbourne’s best breweries are banding together for an event unlike any other. Beer makers from Bodriggy, Hop Nation, Molly Rose and many more will each be on show, presenting some of the coolest and warmest new brews.

Scandinavian Film Festival
The wider Nordic region is renowned for some high-quality cinema, and we’ll be able to catch the best new flicks when the Scandinavian Film Festival takes place in Melbourne this August.

Melbourne International Film Festival
The premier Melbourne events and festivals for all things movies make their triumphant return to Melbourne this year, and it’s got a stacked program that’ll be one to remember for years to come. 2022’s incarnation marks the 70th year of the festival, and to celebrate there’ll be even more things to dive into, talks, masterclasses, premieres, and a whole lot more. There’s bound to be something up your alley. Some of the key movies to keep an eye on are Seriously Red, Three Thousand Years of Longing and Before Now & Then.
There’ll also be a bunch of interesting talks, Mark Coles Smith will dive into the world of acting, Katie Milwright will chat about Cinematography, and Katie Flaxman will bring you behind the curtain of editing, among much more. Melbourne Retail Festival
Are you a designer or wholesaler? This is the event for you. The Exhibition Building will be jam-packed with some of the world’s coolest up-and-coming brands that want to feature in your shop. You’ll be able to chat with them and see their works displayed on the runway.
Like all good festivals out there, the Melbourne Retail Festival will feature talks, workshops, and a whole lot more. This festival is taking place at Royal Exhibition Building on August 24 and August 25. Dive into more information and grab your tickets here.
Music festivals
WinterWild
These cooler months make a lot of us stay in, but every now and then, an event comes along that leans into that, and makes coming out sound great. The Winterwild festival will light up the Apollo Bay region this August, with events that’ll definitely warm you up.
Ahead of their successful US run, you can catch Aussie rockers Amyl and The Sniffers, an outdoor Wildfeast with some outdoor barbecues, or even some horror-themed events. Crossroads Guitar Festival
No, it’s not the annual Eric Clapton festival, but an amazing offering among these Melbourne events and festivals of the same name. There’ll be some of our best guitarists on show, Kathleen Halloran, who performed with Kate Ceberano, Daniel Spencer, who played with Jimmy Barnes, and Dai Jones, among many more.

Monolith Festival
Border closures saw a bunch of Aussie-only line-ups, it was a great time for local musos. After things have been open for a few months, we’ve seen international headliners come back, and Aussie fill supporting roles.
But Monolith is bringing that back with an all-Aussie affair, Karnivool, Cog, and Ocean Grove will be hard rocking their way into Melburnian ears when Monolith hits Melbourne this August. Supporting these bands will be up-and-comers Plini, sleepmakeswaves, Reliqa & Yomi Ship, you can’t get more metal than this. The Monolith Festival is taking place at Port Melbourne Industrial Centre for the Arts on August 27, tickets are selling fast, grab them here.

Lightscape
This August sees Lightscape, a journey through all things lights. The Royal Botanic Gardens will be literally lit up during the festival, attendees will get to experience a 1.8km trail of beautiful installations.

Re-Generation Youth Festival
If you’re a younger reader of Beat and looking to get out there in the world, this festival is the one for you. The Re-Generation Youth Festival allows our most business-minded youth to have a platform to share their interesting ideas and ways of thinking.

Melbourne Houseplant Festival
You probably can’t get anything more Melbourne sounding than this. A festival dedicated to houseplants. In this day and age, plants are becoming children, people are caring for them with their lives, so why not celebrate that?
The Melbourne Houseplant Festival will feature talks, workshops, and lots more, you’ll leave knowing a whole lot more about your green friends. Tickets start from an easy $9, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t head to this.

Boho Luxe Market
It mightn’t seem like one, but this could definitely be considered a festival, over some dates this August, Melbourne will transform into a little Byron Bay. Attendees can grab some beautiful clothing, jewellery, homewares, and lots more, it’s truly like you’re walking in a Byron Bay shopping centre.
On top of that, you’ll also get to experience an enjoyable sound healing session, so you can relax and get into the moment. This show is taking place at the Royal Exhibition Building, Nicholson St and Carlton, running from August 26 until August 28 respectively. Check out some more info here.
MS Melbourne Run + Ride Festival
The Melbourne Run and Ride festival is open for athletes of all talents, there’s options from a 2.5km family ride to a whopping 50km ride, and everything in between. You can sign up over on their website and raise some money for MS, the great cause that this festival goes towards to.
