Brunswick East prepares to light up the longest night with music, performance and ancient seasonal vibes.

As Melbourne shivers through its coldest weeks, CERES is once again transforming the winter darkness into a glowing celebration of connection and renewal. The beloved Winter Solstice festival returns to CERES Park in Brunswick East this month, drawing thousands for two special nights of fire, music and communal ritual to mark the turning of the season.

With live music, roaming performers, light installations and a dramatic giant ceremonial fire sculpture at the heart of both evenings, the event offers a much-needed antidote to winter isolation. Expect mulled wine, seasonal eats and spaces designed for reflection amid the glowing warmth of community.

The family-friendly Friday session runs 5:30pm–8:30pm on June 19, perfect for all ages with gentler programming and plenty of wonder for kids. Saturday’s After Dark event on June 20 stretches from 5pm–10pm, promising a more atmospheric, late-night vibe for grown-ups seeking deeper ritual and connection.

At a time when many Melburnians crave real-world belonging beyond screens, CERES Winter Solstice has become an annual pilgrimage. “We need more moments that help us feel connected to each other, to the seasons and to something beyond the day-to-day,” says Melissa Lawson of CERES. The event has grown steadily, drawing crowds from across the city to honour the longest night and the slow return of light.

This isn’t just another winter market – it’s a modern take on ancient traditions, blending contemporary performance, music and shared storytelling in one of Melbourne’s most progressive community spaces. The immersive winter landscape created at CERES turns the park into a magical realm of flickering flames and collective energy.

With Family Friday already sold out, those still chasing tickets should move quickly for the After Dark session. In a city that loves its cultural rituals, CERES Winter Solstice continues to stand out as a genuine highlight of the Melbourne winter calendar – warm, wild and wonderfully human.
