My Chemical Romance postpones Melbourne show

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance won't be bringing the Black Parade Down Under until 2023.

We thought we’d seen the end of tour cancellations and postponement but alas, here we are.

Black-eyeliner-loving millennials in Australia will have to wait just that little bit longer to see quintessential sad boys of punk My Chemical Romance who have just postponed their long-awaited Australian tour dates by another year, rescheduling the shows until March 2023. This will be the band’s first Australian shows since their appearance at Big Day Out festival in 2012.

“Due to the uncertainty regarding international border restrictions and indoor venue capacity limits, to ensure that we can honour every ticket purchased the My Chemical Romance tour dates scheduled to take place in March 2022 have now been rescheduled,” the band posted to Instagram.

Announced back in November of 2019, the New Jersey-founded group was originally slated to perform in Australia in March as headliners at Download Festival 2020, alongside the likes of US alt-rockers Deftones, Aussie punks Clowns, Arizona outfit Jimmy Eat World, genre-bending rock band Baroness and plenty more. However just one week out from their scheduled Australian visit, the global pandemic arrived in full force, forcing the band to cancel all touring plans.

At the time, it was already known that the emo band of your teenage years were reuniting for their first performance since 2012 in LA, but then they decided to take advantage of the hype and head (well, plan to head) overseas.

Then, earlier this year the band finally revealed details of an Australian arena tour for 2022, planning to kick off their exclusive run of shows in Brisbane on Monday, March 14 2022, and perform in Melbourne on Thursday, March 17 and Sydney on Saturday, March 19.

Coming in hot for 2023, My Chemical Romance will now take to Brisbane Entertainment Centre on March 14, Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne on March 17 and Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney on March 19 2023.

The band first made their debut in 2002 with the independently released album “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love”. The band signed to Reprise Records the following year and made its major-label debut with 2004’s “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge”, now 3x certified Platinum. The album contained the Platinum hit ‘I’m Not Okay (I Promise),’ the Gold-certified ‘Helena,’ and ‘The Ghost of You.’

Rolling Stone hailed the 3x Platinum “The Black Parade” as one of the top albums of 2006. The lead single ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’ topped both Billboard’s Alternative Songs tally and the UK Official Singles chart and is now 3x Platinum.

The band toured extensively behind the album – appearing as characters from “The Black Parade” – and released the live album “The Black Parade is Dead!” in 2008. “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” was released in 2010 and topped Billboard’s Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. It was followed by a series of singles later released as “Conventional Weapons” in 2013.

All existing tickets remain valid without the need for exchange. Ticket holders unable to attend the rescheduled dates can obtain a refund from their point of purchase. Refund requests must be received by 5pm, Friday 10 December. Head here for more info.
