Melbourne's Brunswick Ballroom is opening its doors to Turkish musicians, singers, and music lovers for a community night built around live performance and connection.

The Turkish Community Open Mic Night, presented by Brunswick Ballroom and the Australian Turkish Cultural Platform, is designed to bring Melbourne’s Turkish community together through music. Whether someone’s a seasoned performer, a casual bedroom musician, or a newcomer to the city looking to find their people, the event is pitched as a welcoming space for all.

The night is open to all genres, with performers getting 10 minutes each on stage. A professional house band will be on hand to support those who need it, and a solid lineup of gear will be available at the venue.

Available equipment on the night includes:

  • Drum kit
  • Keyboard
  • Right-handed guitar
  • Right-handed bass guitar

Performers are encouraged to bring anything else they might need.

To get on the bill, participants need to fill out an online application form with their name, song or songs, song key, instrument, and a short audio or video recording. Spots aren’t guaranteed, so getting the form in early is a good idea.

It’s a pretty rare thing to see a night carved out specifically for a cultural community in Melbourne’s live music scene, and this one’s got a clear mission: get Turkish musicians and music lovers in the same room, on the same stage, and making something together.
