Video Premiere: Tetsuians return with ‘Punching In’ off upcoming third album

Tetsuians

Melbourne trio Tetsuians have returned with their first single titled 'Punching In' off their upcoming third album, due for release in 2022.

Tetsuians are a Melbourne trio with Maroochydore roots that bring surf coast vibes to indie rock, spanning rock, pop and alternative genres. They turn the tempo up on their newest release, a taste of their upcoming album, which has droning guitar riffs and a slightly psychedelic video.

The band have been together since 2012, but saved their debut album until 2019’s eponymous debut, led by the single ‘Blue Or Blackballed’. Counting diverse influences from Guided By Voices, Supergrass and The Fall all the way to the B-52s, they built up a strong local reputation before shifting gears in 2021.

They then followed up their debut with 2020’s Elephant Hexagon, with singles ‘Bloody Chieftain’ and ‘Pack A Little Bag’ before their rapid progress was stalled by COVID lockdowns, making ‘Punching In’ their first single of 2021. You can check out our feature on Elephant Hexagon here.

It follows a bit of a shake up in the band after the departure of long-time bassist and vocalist Amber Craske, leaving Tetsuians’ Trent Price (guitar/vox) to take the vocal reigns and steer them for their newest release. It’s a big shift from female to male vocals, but Price’s range compliments the track’s rocking ethos.

Price and Andy Jackson (drums) have now teamed with Luke Guan (bass) to complete their musical trilogy for their upcoming third studio release.

Fans will get to see the new track live soon enough, as Tetsuians are scheduled to play alongside Annual Leaf and Malibu Spacey at Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar on December 5 this year, after it was originally rescheduled from back in August.
