“We’re delighted to welcome Friday Nights back to the NGV for summer and offer our visitors late-night access to Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto and Bark Ladies: Eleven Artists from Yirrkala. Melbourne has missed live music and events in recent times and we’re proud to be bringing it back to the NGV and to be able to reconnect with the community through great art, music and food” said Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV.

Throughout the evening Gallery visitors can enjoy food and drinks inspired by the summer exhibitions at a number of hospitality venues. In the Great Hall audiences can visit the Yering Station wine bar for local wines and Chanel-inspired dining options. The Pommery Champagne Bar in the Gallery Kitchen café will offer oysters and an extended selection of Cuvées to indulge in throughout the evening.

At the Four Pillars Gin Bar in the garden, visitors can make the most of summer evenings sipping on Four Pillars drinks including classic G&T’s and bespoke cocktails. Also in the garden guests can experience the David Jones Vault which will open once every Friday evening for a limited time and will reveal surprise giveaways for visitors to enjoy on the night.

Opening on 4 December, Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto is the first exhibition in Australia to exclusively focus on the significant contribution to twentieth-century fashion culture by the renowned French couturière Gabrielle Chanel (1883–1971). This major exhibition is presented by the NGV in partnership with the Palais Galliera, the preeminent fashion museum of the City of Paris.

Premiering on 17 December, Bark Ladies: Eleven Artists from Yirrkala is a major ground floor exhibition that celebrates the NGV’s extraordinary collection of bark paintings and larrakitj (painted hollow poles) by women artists working out of the Yolngu-run art centre, Buku Larrngay Mulka Centre (Buku), situated in Northeast Arnhem Land.

NGV Friday Nights will run from 10 December 2021 to 22 April 2022 at NGV International, St Kilda Rd, Melbourne. Further information and tickets are available via the NGV website.
