Selve are breaking outta heaven with new EP, single and a run of Aussie tour dates

Gold Coast alt-rock six-piece Selve have announced a new EP, dropped a new single and locked in a handful of east coast headline dates. Selve are following up their landmark 2025 album Breaking Into Heaven, the first LP by an Aboriginal artist ever recorded at Abbey Road Studios, with a five-track companion EP titled Breaking Outta Heaven, due 19 June.

Recorded partly at Midnight Special Records in the French countryside and partly during the Abbey Road sessions, the EP pulls sonic inspiration from acts like Jungle, Depeche Mode, Jack White and Air.

It closes with a lush orchestral track featuring the 33-piece Australian Session Orchestra, recorded at Selve’s sold-out album preview spectacular at HOTA on the Gold Coast last year. Thematically, it picks up where Breaking Into Heaven left off, asking what happens after you’ve achieved that grand goal and whether breaking into heaven might’ve been a trap all along.

Alongside the announcement comes new single Desire, a riff-heavy crowd favourite that’s been a live staple for the band even though it didn’t make the album cut. It arrives with a one-take video and channels a gnarlier, more grittily-textured energy than much of Breaking Into Heaven, driven by fierce drums, big guitars, and frontman Loki Liddle’s commanding vocals. Bassist Scott French handles production, bringing a pop sheen to what is otherwise a pretty untamed track.

Before the local dates, Selve are also midway through a 20-date EU/UK run kicking off next week. Desire is out now via Community Music. Breaking Outta Heaven EP drops 19 June and is available to pre-save now. The tracklist includes Heaven’s Open, Creature Of The Night, Desire, Run Boy Run, and Rude Awakening featuring the Australian Session Orchestra.

Selve are nominated for the Rock Award and Video Award at tonight’s Queensland Music Awards, having already taken home the Gold Coast Music Award for Best Video for the Breaking Into Heaven title track last year.
