Paul Kalkbrenner : Icke Wieder

Following on from the hugely popular 2008 album release Berlin Calling, Paul Kalkbrenner’s local popularity rose to greater heights (evident from the sell out show Brown Alley in Melbourne in March). The anticipation to see him for his first ever Australian visit the crowd was predominantly to see that German techno maestro with fifteen years experience as a DJ. A huge name on the European festival circuit, his music has wide ranging appeal and Icke Wieder showcases such. A slow and easy on the ears track opens proceedings with Boxing Leise, which is in the same vain as Jestrupp. The beat picks up with a heavier techno vibe in Des Stabes Reuse the exception to all other tracks, which have a more tech house flavour. The album is not ground breaking or futuristic but such a pleasant listen nonetheless.
