Leaps and Bounds Festival announces jam-packed 2022 program

Leaps and Bounds Festival - Chasing Ghosts
Words by Staff Writer

Leaps and Bounds Festival is bringing live music back to the City of Yarra this winter with a stellar lineup of gigs and performances.

Leaps and Bounds Festival is one of inner Melbourne’s biggest and best annual music festivals, with a massive program spread across 10 days and nights, and 35 venues.

Leaps and Bounds kicks off June 24, with an especially important role in 2022 to reinvigorate the local live music scene, with an impressive array of classic Melbourne bands, an ode to the history and tradition of the Melbourne scene, and stellar spotlights on First Nations artists, LGBTQI+ performances, dance, community radio and independent record stores. This festival ticks a lot of boxes, and it’s clear from the 2022 lineup that there’s been a lot of community consultation with people from all sides of the spectrum.

What you need to know

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

Every year the festival lineup offers a massive amount of variety, and the already announced acts hit right at the heart of Melbourne culture. There’ll be a tribute to the legendary host of PBS’ ‘Acid Country’ program David Heard, who died in September last year after more than 40 years hosting the beloved program.

There’ll also be the Punters Club Reunion Show, a time-machine MC’d by Myf Warhurst back to Brunswick Street in the 1990s featuring a huge lineup of performances from the likes of Even, Bodyjar, Holocene, Underground Lovers, Fenn and George Carroll Wilson, Rob Snarski and many, many more. This is going down at the Abbotsford Convent on July 3.

Then at the same venue there’s Fitrzoyalty, Cookin’ On 3 Burners, The Band Who Knew Too Much, Acapelicans, Checkerboard Lounge and more all celebrating the soul, funk, blues and hip-hop legends of Brunswick Street along with the venues we love; The Evelyn, The Night Cat, Rainbow Hotel and Bar Open.

Bad Apples House Party will feature an amazing Blak lineup including BARKAA, Kobie Dee and Chasing Ghosts at the Collingwood Town Hall, the same venue will also host the Leaps and Bounds Record Fair, and ARIA-winners The Killjoys reforming to play their 1990 album Ruby in full.

Today, Leaps and Bounds have also announced The Push Music Careers Expo; a free event for young people to plan careers in the music industry, The Dancing Peacock; a dance journey through India, Mr. McClelland’s Finishing School, featuring a wide-array of indie-pop classics, an EOFY Party with Karen From Finance, Tanzer and RL Yacht Wives, and heaps more.

You can check out the full program and grab tickets here, and we’ll be back with our top picks before the festival kicks off.
