Violinist Zachary Paul is elevated to major player throughout Your Day Will Come – a series of dreamy sound collages.
This album’s title – which bears the same name as Chanel Beads’ preceding debut set (2024) – could be interpreted as an incoming come-uppance or a pep talk.
Shane Lavers, the musical mastermind behind Chanel Beads, has said he deliberately embraced spontaneity and imperfections on album number two.

The opening Drums Only floats in on an airstream of celestial “doo-doo-doo” harmonies, what sounds like discordant harmonica musings, beseeching strings and loose drumming. Wow. Consider me nailed to the chair, headphones firmly in place and engrossed for this record’s entire duration.
“To the water, lead me to the slaughter…” – the pedal steel-enhanced Song For The Messenger brings heavy themes and unstable thoughts.
Maya McGrory’s vocals read more like a spirit – the essence of something – rather than a single person, her matter-of-fact delivery softening emotional heft (eg. “Fuck this world I still have love for you”).
Sporadic yelled fragments highlight important words/phrases within Spirit Showing. Drunk Stupid In The Structure is invaded by a sound snippet as intrusive as a chainsaw – like Lavers checking that we’re still listening.
Elsewhere: sobbing punctuates the mid-point of Outside Your Life, which closes out in euphoric mode; whispering introduces Boss, before sawing violin dominates; and what sounds like a striking match catching flame opens Beaten With Sticks.
“I thought the music would save you like it saved me” – do these lyrics double as Chanel Beads’ statement of intent?
A curious, bewitching album like nothing we’ve ever heard before.
