Known for his chilled-out, tropical-folk vibes, this time around Bahamas employs two of the hardest working session players Steve Gadson and Pino Palladino, to create a record that will draw new ears and expand the listening palate of current fans.
Channeling the classic sounds of the Stax label, Jurvanen’s vocals sound like a rainbow bursting through the clouds – vibrant, sweet and full of admiration. From punchy, indie, electric guitar in ‘Show Me Naomi’, to the swagger of the phased out ‘So Free’, the expansive textures of instrumentation in Earthtones will make you want to hit the d-floor in no time.
This is the type of record that hits with a bang in the opener and impresses with sexy grooves throughout. This can be attributed to Jurvanen’s love of hip hop and R&B, particularly Anderson Paak, Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West who he describes as being the ‘punk rock of now’.
Stepping outside the box for the fourth time around, Jurvanen proves that he can deliver a sexy soulful swagger alongside his lush falsetto vocals.
