Master songwriter Don Walker is performing in Melbourne this weekend with The Harmonettes

Words by Staff Writer

Following rave reviews for his June 2023 tour, Don Walker returns to the road with his crack band, featuring The Harmonettes, for the Lightning Live 2024 Tour.

Don’s touring band features his long-time bandmates and creative collaborators Garrett Costigan on pedal steel; Michael Vidale on bass; Hamish Stuart on drums and Shannon Bourne on guitar. Joining them on backing vocals are The Harmonettes: Amanda Roff, Erica Dunn, Felicity Cripps and Alex Scott-Douglas. This is an outfit that captivated audiences earlier this year and you only have to check out the live video for ‘Jungle Pam’ to understand why.

Songwriter and lead vocalist, Felicity Cripps, harbours an otherworldliness on stage, embodying the spirit of her songs – her voice a force of strength and character. The Castlemaine-based artist is soon to release her second album, recorded at Resting Bell Studios on Wautharong country, with engineer / producer, Nick Huggins. In a live setting, Cripps pairs up with vocalist and saxophonist, Alex Scott-Douglas, the duo creating harmony-heavy melodies that almost lead into Kate Bush territory with surprising punk elements.

Melody Moko is an award-winning artist who believes in that apparently old-fashioned notion that songs should be about something and that articulating universal themes and concerns through the personal can and will confront listeners and hopefully prompt reflection, and maybe change. Her style is a natural and heartfelt extension of her personality and perspective on life and sings about what she believes in and what she stands for as a human.

Lachlan Edwards is a singer-songwriter from Newcastle NSW playing folk indie acoustic style tunes with airplay on triple j’s Unearthed Roots and triple j followed. His definitive sound, song writing and soaring voice have earned him supports with Ash Grunwald, American singer-songwriters Joe Pug and Justin Townes Earle, Felipe Baldomir, Jack Botts, Kim Churchill, Steph Strings and many more.
