Wild Beasts’ have had rapturous praise for their latest album, Smother, with critics saying they’ve eased off the sharper climbs and swan dives of their first two albums. It seems to be true. Hayden Thorpe has a distinctive, elastic and deeply theatrical voice which is often more interesting than enjoyable, but not so with Bed Of Nails. This song shivers more than it shrieks. With intricate bubbles of synth and bass and a slow disco rhythm, this single is one of the warmer, more subtle things they have released.
