Video Premiere: Archer keeps it simple with ‘Land Land Land Land’

Much like himself, Archer’s newest and fourth album, The Divine Church of the Open Sky, Volume 1 addresses environmental and establishment issues at every opportunity, harnessing old world charm, sincerity, and humour.

The album was recorded using analogue equipment as part of the field recordings series, utilising the aid of specialist engineer Alex Bennett; Archer chose specific natural settings in which to record his songs. Archer is emerging as a magic-realist, a dreamer and an idealist, a preacher and a damn fool; he is a “resistance songwriter” for Australia.

Volume 1’s 11 original tracks will also be contextualised and framed by a small selection of spoken word pieces, and the album as a whole will be released on Wednesday 16 May.

To keep you satiated in the meantime, ‘Song for Kelowna (and everything)’ will be released as the only album single on Wednesday 9 May.

Archer is hitting the road on a tour of the New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. Unlike most musicians, he includes nursing homes, hillsides, riverbanks, supermarket car parks and gutters in his lineup of scheduled and unscheduled performances. His shows are angled towards anyone who wants to listen.
