Great news for Melbourne's pub scene.
The folks behind some of Melbourne’s most popular watering holes – including Corner Hotel, Northcote Social Club and National Hotel Richmond – have announced the acquisition of The Railway Hotel in Fitzroy North.
With plans to preserve the pub’s unique character, The Railway is set to remain an authentic and welcoming spot for locals to gather when it reopens tomorrow, March 29.

One of the most exciting aspects of The Railway’s new ownership is the potential for live music offerings. While nothing has been confirmed yet, Corner Group is well-known for its live music events and it seems likely that some good old-fashioned entertainment will be on the cards in the future.
In the meantime, The Railway Gang will continue to play their regular Thursday night gig, ensuring that punters can still get their live music fix.

Established in 1972 by Peter and Miriam Negrelli, The Railway has been a favourite neighbourhood pub for decades, drawing in loyal regulars who appreciate its no-nonsense charm and unpretentious atmosphere.
It’s clear that this true neighbourhood gem has fallen into good hands. Corner Group have made it clear that they plan to keep what makes everything The Railway so great, all while introducing an Italian-inspired menu that pays tribute to Miriam’s decades of home-style cooking.
It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of this neighbourhood institution. In a post-pandemic landscape, it’s reassuring to know that The Railway Hotel will continue to be a welcoming spot for locals and visitors alike.
The Railway Hotel will reopen tomorrow, March 29. Keep up to date with all things by heading here.
