Clown shoes at the ready: Freddie Wimpole's Freakshow Circus Halloween Carnivale Spectacular is pitching its big top in St Kilda.

The Freddie Wimpole’s Freakshow Circus Halloween Carnivale Spectacular marks the 11th time the Fitzroy Street pub has thrown a Halloween bash, and this round kicks off at 12pm on 31 October before wrapping at 3am.

Expect the venue’s usual brand of controlled mayhem, now dressed up with a big-top makeover, carnival-style snacks, live music, DJs, prizes and plenty going on behind the bar.

A concession stand and popcorn machine will help sell the circus vibe, while the pub’s 14 craft beer taps are getting a guest: a special Halloween release from local brewery Hop Nation.

Halloween cocktail and shot specials will also be on offer all night. Come 6pm, Mixed Tape will kick off the live music, then DJ George will keep things rolling into the early hours.

Half-hearted face paint probably won’t cut it at this one. Guests are encouraged to go all out with their costumes, with prizes up for grabs for Best Dressed, plus spot prizes handed out through the night for behaviour that’s spooky, or just plain questionable.

The kitchen will be firing up the full menu all day and into the night.

The star of the show is the Original Recipe Southern Fried Chicken, served by the bucket with pickles, house ranch and Frank’s Hot Sauce.

The recently revamped menu also lists reubens, hot dogs, burgers, tenders and plenty more, all made for pairing with a cold beer.

Anyone wanting to lock in a spot can book ahead, though walk-ins are always welcome.

With the doors open for 15 hours straight, there’s plenty of time to squeeze in a feed, a few drinks and maybe even a costume change.
