Jovi Skyler is armed with his guitar and ready to go full throttle in the music video for his brand-new track, Virtual Reality.

Jovi Skyler is a man of many talents: a punk rocker, singer-songwriter, one-man orchestra and a DIY music video maker. His new music video, Virtual Reality, showcases these talents simultaneously.

Virtual Reality feels like a psychedelic sci-fi punk film featuring grabs from cult classics. The visuals parallel the song, with the grungy punk sound setting the scene to explore the presently dystopian digital world.

Skyler plays with the dynamics on the track. The mellow verses build into a peaking chorus, reminiscent of the beloved ’90s grunge structures that Skyler’s sound suits effortlessly. The song’s intensity can be felt in both the sound and lyricism.

“Virtual Reality is about society’s appetite for the digital world and the tolerance we can develop towards it,” says Skyler.

Originally from Sydney, Skyler has been honing his songwriting abilities for years now, even briefly attending the Conservatorium of Music. After a two-year stint in Europe gigging around solo and being exposed to different genres, he returned home with a hunger for creating the abrasive and exhilarating.

His debut self-titled EP was released right before the pandemic, a warped expedition of distorted post-grunge arrangements layered with analytical critiques of his surroundings. Its second single, We Went to the Zoo, gained attention across the pond on US college radio.

During the 2021 lockdown, the vegetarian punk rocker developed his DIY attitude towards music videos, releasing his highly regarded singles, Danger Land and Tattoos. The accompanying videos incorporated his psychedelic visuals, marking a turning point for him as he became more focused on the issues suffered by the collective.

Skyler released his debut album, Nothing to Do, earlier this year. The album has been well received by fans, who have been drawn in by the sincere and authentic songwriting.

The rebellious lone wolf has started making serious waves in the industry with this album’s achievements. Don’t underestimate the one-man band, as Jovi Skyler is locked and loaded with wild and turbulent sounds.
