Soweto Gospel Choir To Tour Australia In 2011

Two-time Grammy award winners, Soweto Gospel Choir are returning to Australia next year for a national tour, performing their recent album called African Grace.

Multi-Grammy award winners Soweto Gospel Choir will be touring Australia next year, performing their new show called African Grace, which is also the title of their fifth and most recent album.

The national tour will begin in May 2011, and will cover 55 concerts in Australia and New Zealand, with further concerts scheduled for Fiji between May and July.

African Grace was recently nominated for a Grammy in the Best Traditional World Music Album category, and this is the Choir’s fourth Grammy nomination in five years. The Award will be announced at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on February 13.

The leader of the Soweto Gospel Choir, Shimmy Jiyane, was thrilled to hear the new of the nomination.

"Each time we receive a nomination it is as exciting as if it’s the first time, and we are very proud to wave the South African flag at the Grammy Awards," he said.

Since the Choir’s introduction to the world eight years ago, they have amassed a growing worldwide fan-base, and have received many local and international awards.

Heralded as the most exciting group to emerge in World Music in recent years, the Choir is very excited to be returning to Australia.

Andrew Kay, the CEO of HVK Productions who are presenting the tour said, "This is an extraordinary group of performers who touch people’s hearts wherever they go. What this group has achieved is staggering, not just in critical acclaim and audience size, but the impact they make on people all around the world."

Tour dates and ticketing details will be released in early 2011.
