Reggae kings Crown Heights set the mood right with cruisy new single, My Days

Words by Kaya Martin

The newest Crown Heights release just oozes good vibes. The group’s impeccable musicianship lights up with an earworm of a track to lull listeners into a sense of chilled-out bliss.

Slow and sensual, the classic reggae rhythm is decorated with effervescent horns, smatterings of synth, and those sexy-shimmery retro windchime rolls (you know the ones).

The song has a feel-good nature that is only heightened by the wholesome lyrics. Front man Marvin Priest croons out the chorus “I send blessings with love. I’ll give you the rest of my days” with cashmere-soft harmonies from the band’s two other vocalists. His rich and resonant voice handles the melody with ease, adding a buttery texture to the song.

My Days is the ensemble’s third single release and the most relaxed of the lot. It is the most romantic of the Crown Heights discography, following the 2021 releases of  I Need It and Slow Down (Remix). The six-piece group delivers that big band sound, with members hailing from Jamaica/London, New Zealand, Brazil, Samoa and Sri Lanka.

Having only formed in 2019, they are quickly climbing up Melbourne’s reggae ranks. They are set to grace the stage this holiday season for Reggae Christmas, alongside local favourites Jahrukus, Stick Mareebo, and a host of other special guests. The show will take place on December 22 at St. Kilda’s Memo Music Hall.
