Powderfinger are back in a big way.

Australian rock gods Powderfinger have been up and about throughout 2020, performing a livestream show to raise money for Support Act and Beyond Blue in May, before then releasing a 20th-anniversary reissue of their seminal album, Odyssey Number Five. Then in September, they lifted the lid on their first single in a decade, ‘Day By Day’.

Now, the legendary outfit have just dropped details of a new album. Unreleased will be Powderfinger’s eighth record and pulls together a host of previously unheard and unreleased tracks recorded during the peak of their career, spanning the years 1998-2010.

Unreleased came together as they compiled the reissue of Odyssey Number Five. Diving head first into their old material saw Powderfinger experience a reawakening of sorts – suddenly, they’d amassed around 50 unreleased tracks that for whatever reason didn’t see the light of day.

Unreleased celebrates ten of the best songs from these discoveries.

“We were always careful to keep our albums to around about vinyl length. While we searched for material from the ON5 writing and recording period we kept uncovering long forgotten tunes that were unmixed, unfinished or unsuitable for the purposes of the records we made,” Powderfinger said in a statement.

“We narrowed it down to about 15 and then down to a final ten. It brought back lots of memories and stories and made it clear how high we had set the bar with regard to the quality of songs we released.”

Unreleased is out on Friday November 27 via Universal
