To coincide with the announcement, Melbourne Music Week has opened their expressions of interest for the forthcoming event, calling on artists, venues and promoters to be part of the action.

As part of this, music industry practitioners, individuals, groups, venues and businesses are encouraged to apply, with Melbourne Music Week eager to fill the bill with a mix of performances, collaborations, workshops, multimedia installations and commissioned works.

Expressions of interest will be judged on the specific requirements needed to produce the event, with the City of Melbourne able to assist with the costs of staging it, where required.

“Melbourne is renowned for its incredible live music scene, people love it and we are looking forward to bringing back the buzz through melody this December,” Lord Mayor Sally Capp says.

“Before the pandemic, live music contributed roughly $1.7 billion to Victoria’s economy and created 42,000 jobs every year, so it’s vital to our economic recovery.

“More people back in the city and in our venues means more jobs, a boost to businesses, and a thriving Melbourne.”

In a COVID world, Melbourne Music Week’s Extended 2020/21 event attracted 72,000 attendees whilst delivering a $5.8 million boost to the local economy.

Across three months in summer, Melbourne Music Week reignited the local music scene, welcoming both luminaries and emerging stars to perform and present events. Some of the notable events included the Happy Mondays series at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, the Summer Plaza Series at Melbourne Museum as well as other performances from Adalita, Mick Harvey, Baker Boy and more.

Melbourne Music Week goes down from Friday December 3 until Sunday December 12. Expressions of interest are open until 5pm, Wednesday August 11 and can be submitted here.
