As the Melbourne International Comedy Festival enters its third weekend, it’s to get out there and see the new generation of Australia’s comedy world. Today we’re diving into some of the best emerging talent to catch this weekend.
Lou Wall – Bleep Bloop
The amalgamation of music and comedy keeps getting bigger and bigger in Australia, with a bevy of original performers entering the scene in recent years. One of those is found in Lou Wall, who brings their pop comedy take to the MICF. Lou’s got a lot to sing about too, recently having some experiences with the Illuminati.

Floyd Alexander-Hunt – Highly Strung
Bringing her NZ flair to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Floyd Alexander-Hunt is a star in the making. Her comedy dives into her life in NZ living with her parents during the lockdown, and the world of love.

Takashi Wakasugi – Stay Home Stay
Australia is spoilt for choice when it comes to comedy exports, many flock from all corners of the Earth and grace our stages on a regular basis. One of the newest additions to that list is Takashi Wakasugi, a Japanese star who is making waves down under. His set details how he was stuck in Perth during the lockdown, living with his girlfriend’s family.

Will McKenna – Appellation
Will McKenna is soon going to become a household name, with appearances across plays, TV, movies, and stand-up comedy, there’s almost no doubt you would have come across something with him in it. His new show Appellation previews this weekend, meaning cheaper tickets are on offer.

Cait Johnson – Kind Regards
Cait Johnson has worked on some of Australia’s funniest shows in recent years, like Hard Quiz and The Weekly to name a few. She’s bringing her writer’s mind to the MICF this year with her debut show Kind Regards. You can catch her at the Coopers Inn at 6.30pm this weekend.
