Perth’s Home Baked crew is churning out some of the best hip hop of the moment. The six-piece collective known as 6k (meaning 6000 for Perth’s postcode)continue to release banger after banger, making waves in the local music scene. Led by young rap artist Evanda, the group has been making a ton of new music lately. Sowdy has released his latest stripped-back single ‘Clockwork’, and Luchii recently dropped his new EP Breadtime, featuring US rappers BIGBABYGUCCI and $teve Cannon. I’d like to draw your attention to Figuero Jones, who dropped his slick mixtape Hustleman Sound. It’s a solid collection of gritty, trap tracks, which explore the vast soundscape of modern hip hop. Fuelled by wavy synths and tough 808’s, high-energy raps and furious flows, the mixtape has a banger for every occasion.
A meld of hip hop beats and electronica, Sydney artist Joyride flaunts his diverse musical talents as he dabbles across genres. As a member of the One Day crew, Joyride has been Spit Syndicate’s tour DJ for the past six years, and has collaborated with Horrorshow, Drapht, Urthboy and Illy. The audacious rapper has just released the quirky music video for ‘Aunty Tracey’s Cookies’. With a unique sound that crosses boundaries, the rap artist has successfully established himself as a pioneer in the local music scene. You can catch Joyride and his band at Northcote Social Club on Friday October 20. Accompanied by Sydney three-piece Haiku Hands and Melbourne’s very own François, this is one party you don’t want to miss.
