Swedish stadium rockers, indie day festivals and hip hop madness: This is May at Stay Gold

stay gold
words by staff writer

Whether you’re into banging beats, shredding solos or soul-stirring verses, Stay Gold has everything you need this month.

The Sydney Road hotspot is leaving it all on the dance floor this May with a festival dedicated to local bands, a freestyling masterclass, the grand finales of their iconic 2026 Battle of the Bands and karaoke competitions, and even a few international acts making their Aussie debuts.

Toss a few classic tribute parties on top of that pile, and you’re laughing. For everything from cheeky midday beers to all-night boogies, Stay Gold is the place. Be there.

ACCESS GRANTED 4

Melbourne’s underground hip hop scene gets a serious flex with Access Granted 4, stacking a lineup that blends rising local heat with a global touch. Headlined by SMNDIF and IJALE, plus a special afterparty appearance from US rapper Dizzy Wright, this one’s all about spotlighting the next wave before they properly blow.

Beatdown

No pre-written verses, no safety nets – just pure, off-the-dome chaos. Beatdown throws MCs into the fire with live beats and zero prep, where every bar lands (or doesn’t) in real time. Expect rowdy crowd energy, razor-sharp clashes and the kind of blink-and-you-miss-it moments that only happen when everything’s on the line.

Saddle up, Brunswick, because this one’s for the country heads and heartbreak enthusiasts. Prepare for wall-to-wall Luke Combs anthems, singalongs louder than the PA, and a room full of boots stomping in unison.

Eclipse (Sweden)

Swedish rock heavy-hitters Eclipse roll into Stay Gold with their polished, high-octane take on their first ever Aussie headline tour. They’ll dish out big hooks, bigger solos, and enough arena energy to make the room feel twice its size.

Stay Gold Battle of the Bands – Grand Final

The big one. After weeks of chaos, crunch riffs and crowd votes, the Battle of the Bands wraps up with a stacked grand final and a juicy cash prize on the line. Expect everything from indie-rock to feral punk energy as the finalists Fauna, Sage, Bite My Tongue, Blyss, Operation Karma, Heat 6 and even an unknown wildcard throw absolutely everything at the stage.

am//pm Emo Night

The never-ending emo phase is alive and well, and it’s taking over Stay Gold for a full-blown singalong meltdown. Banks Arcade headline with their signature heavy-hitting sound before the night spirals into wall-to-wall emo, pop-punk and alt bangers spun by am//pm DJs.

Stay Gold Karaoke Grand Final

Months of chaotic sing-offs all come to a head with the ultimate karaoke showdown. With $10K on the line and Ally Love hosting the madness, expect power ballads, wild stage antics and a crowd fully committed to the bit. Whether you’re backing a mate or just here for the spectacle, this is peak midweek chaos at Stay Gold.

PIERCE THE VEIL — KARAOKE IS FOREVER

Ten years of Misadventures and Pierce The Veil are celebrating the only way that makes sense — a pop-up karaoke night entirely dedicated to the album. Teaming up with Fearless Records, this is a free fan event built for belting out every word alongside fellow devotees. Free merch, good people, and Caraphernelia on the mic. RSVP to lock in your spot.

Y FEST

Local five-piece Y Street are going all out for their debut album launch, curating a full-blown mini-festival inside the venue. The lineup jumps between rock, psych, folk and electronic, making it a genre-hopping ride that kicks on deep into the night. Hear from Buried Feather, Hollie Joyce, Grevillea, T-Models and Pong (DJ set).

The Great Big Beer Band

Australia’s self-proclaimed “most overqualified drinking band” are here to turn the room into one giant singalong. Expect pub classics, big vocals, line dancing and zero shame as the crowd leans all the way in. Honestly, if you leave this one sober, you’ve done it all wrong.

Castles In Paris: Peep vs $B Appreciation Night

Sad rap, emo trap, and late-night feels take over for this tribute night to Lil Peep and $uicideboy$. It’s moody, it’s loud, and it’s built for screaming every word with strangers. Perfect if you want your dance floor catharsis with a darker edge.

Static Dress

The British heavy rockers are heading to town for their first-ever Melbourne headline show, with Ends in Tragedy and Post Heaven offering support for the nights. Based in Leeds, they’ll be coming in hot with tracks off their forthcoming album, Injury Episode, set to drop only a few days after this show.

Daddy Long Legs

New York’s Daddy Long Legs bring their blown-out psych-rock chaos to Brunswick. Think harmonica-driven mayhem, frantic energy and a set that barely stays contained on stage. It’s gritty, sweaty, and exactly what Stay Gold does best.

GOAT SHAMAN HIT STAY GOLD

A filthy final salvo of doom and sludge before Stay Gold closes its doors for good. Goat Shaman headline a stacked bill alongside death metal bruisers Hormagaunt, septic grind punks Ratlord, and Shipyard’s heavy-as-hell doom sludge. This is your last chance to get crushed by this kind of lineup in this room — don’t let it pass you by.

No Future: Hip Hop & RnB Night

No Future wraps things up at Stay Gold with a late-night blowout of hip hop and alt-rap heaters. Expect DJs spinning everything from Xxxtentacion to Juice Wrld well into the early hours, with a crowd that’s here to go hard for the final send-off.

HEISTS ‘LIGHTS OUT’ SINGLE RELEASE SHOW

Sydney metalcore heavyweights Heists return to Melbourne riding serious momentum — fresh off supports with Northlane and a sold-out headline run — to launch crushing new single Lights Out. Bad Juju, who’ve been making serious noise supporting Landmvrks and Teenage Wrist, join local supports Liar and Soulsleep to round out a stacked night at Stay Gold.

TAKING BACK SATURDAY — FINAL STAY GOLD

Taking Back Saturday’s last ever night at Stay Gold is one for the emotional wreckage files. An emo and pop-punk DJ night stacked with MCR, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Blink-182 and every scene anthem you’ve ever screamed into a pillow. Doors at 11pm — come march to the Black Parade one last time in the room that made it count.

AM//PM EMO NIGHT — THE LAST STAY GOLD PARTY

Sydney’s beloved emo night am//pm makes the trip to Brunswick for one final dance floor demolition before Stay Gold shuts forever. Nightlight, Closure and Headstrong hit the stage before the DJs take over with wall-to-wall pop-punk and emo bangers. Jägermeister’s pouring free jagerbombs for the first 100 through the door. Say goodbye properly.

STAY GOLD: TO THE END

Stay Gold closes its doors for good after eight years, and they’re going out swinging. Ocean Grove and Future Static join the farewell party for one last massive night at Brunswick’s beloved institution. First 100 through the door score a limited enamel pin, and the iconic neon sign gets raffled off. One big send-off for a venue that meant everything.
