Brunswick Ballroom is hosting two of Melbourne’s most exciting new acts this May

Brunswick Ballroom
words by staff writer

Melbourne artist Them & I is taking his debut album on the road, and Brunswick Ballroom is the place to be.

Jake Edwards, the 19-year-old behind the Them & I project, has been quietly building something special since his first release in November 2023.

Fingerpicked guitar, languid vocals, and a sound that feels unhurried in the best possible way: Them & I has carved out a lane that’s distinctly his own. Now, with debut album Lay Me Down Here in hand, he’s ready to share it properly.

This isn’t just a standard album tour. Lay Me Down Here is the kind of record that feels like it was made to be heard in a room full of people; personal, but not private. Edwards has already proven he can hold a crowd, coming off a sold-out national headline tour in 2025 and a support run with Tom Odell earlier this year.

A Sunday afternoon at Brunswick Ballroom feels like exactly the right setting to let these songs breathe.

Joining him on the bill is Sweet Boy, the Melbourne-based slowcore and indie rock project led by singer-songwriter and producer Alexander Kendall. Known for emotional, lo-fi tracks, Sweet Boy is a natural fit for the afternoon, the kind of support act that sets a mood rather than just filling time.

Two Melbourne artists, one Sunday afternoon, and a debut album worth showing up for.
