Furnishing the first creative flutter and musical accompaniment to Van Gogh and the Seasons will be UK singer/songwriter Gemma Ray on opening night.

As the exhibition nears the end of its first week, Youth Group’s Toby Martin will take to the stage. Then from Friday May 12 onwards, NGV will host the likes of Gareth Liddiard, Emma Russack, Gawurra, Two Steps on the Water, The Fauves, Grouper, The Blackeyed Susans, Ben Salter Band, Steve Gunn and The Panics.

Van Gogh and the Seasons is an international exclusive to Melbourne. Curated by former Head of Collections at the Van Gogh Museum, Sjraar van Heugten, the exhibition explores a momentous environmental capsule of Van Gogh’s mind – the seasons. To Van Gogh, the seasons represented the circle of life within nature – birth, bloom, maturity and death. Van Gogh repeatedly painted scenes that richly evoked the sensory pleasures or deprivations particular to each season.

The showcase features works lent by leading international museums, including the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, Netherlands.
