The Cat Empire’s beautiful, bounding front man has struck out on his own with solo album Into The Rain, due in store on July 1. As an opening salvo, Wide Open Rivers is low-key and adorable, eschewing the bouncing ska style of his band for a gentle, Paul Kelly-esque twang. As with everything thing he’s put his hand to previously, it is effortless and charming; a simple, open-hearted tune with a great hook.
