Melbourne vaccine competitions are offering exciting incentives to get vaccinated and we're compiling a few of the best right here.

If saving lives and ending lockdowns isn’t enough to get your sleeves rolled up, then how about the chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes every day?

The City of Melbourne is offering the chance to win a $1,000 voucher to spend at Queen Victoria Market, Emporium and Melbourne Central every day until October 10 for vaccinated Melburnians.

But this is just the latest in an ongoing array of Melbourne vaccine competitons, and those Australia-wide.

What you need to know

  • New incentives for Melburnians to get vaccinated are emerging every week
  • There are currently huge prizes up for grabs around Australia
  • Most competitions run through tagged social media posts

Never miss a story. Sign up to Beat’s newsletter and you’ll be served fresh music, arts, food and culture stories three times a week.

To enter the City of Melbourne’s competition, post a selfie or video on Instagram of you about to be vaccinated outside a vaccination centre or medical centre, having just been vaccinated, or with your State Government COVID-19 vaccine card (make sure you hide or blur the personal information on the card, or show the back of the card). Tag @CityofMelbourne and tell them: “In 25 words or fewer, what you are looking forward to doing in Melbourne as more of us get vaccinated and the city reopens?”

This is the second competition run by the City of Melbourne, which gave away 10 $5,000 voucher packages in a radio competition over the last two weeks.

Melbourne Airport is incentivising Victorians to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by giving six vaccinated Victorians – one per month until the end of the year – $10,000 in cash to spend on travel.

Qantas has launched a ‘mega prizes’ series that includes free travel for an entire year for vaccinated Australians, while Luxury Escapes is offering $200 million in vouchers to vaccinated travellers. Virgin Australia is giving away one million of its velocity points for free travel.

Melbourne cinemas Classic Cinema and Lido are providing free popcorn and choctops to vaccinated customers. Melbourne pubs like the Prince Alfred Hotel have aimed to give away free beers to vaccinated patrons.

If you’re lucky enough to work for HAG Imports in Melbourne, they’re offering fully vaccinated staff $100 Myer vouchers. Melbourne-based company Genea are offering the chance to win a trip to Hawaii for their vaccinated staff.

Melbourne companies have led the push throughout the pandemic. Fitzroy store Nobody Denim gave away free personalised jeans to the first 100 vaccinated Victorians who got the jab and tagged them in a post. Golden Robot Records offered a free album on CD or vinyl to anyone who booked in to get jabbed before August 15.

There have also been reports that the federal government is considering a $1 million weekly lotto to give to random vaccinated members of the public from November, when Doherty Institute modelling suggests Australia will hit the 70% vaccination mark.
