Immigration Museum marks Cultural Diversity Week with a free day of performances, food, and community storytelling celebrating Vietnamese Australian heritage.
As part of Cultural Diversity Week, Immigration Museum is hosting a full day of multicultural celebration on 22 March, honouring 50 years of Vietnamese Australian contributions.
Presented in partnership with the Australian Vietnamese Women’s Association, the event brings together community, culture, and creativity under one roof.

Expect a packed program running from 10am to 4pm, with live performances filling the Courtyard throughout the day.
Highlights include a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at 11am, followed by Catriona Vi Nguyen-Robertson performing Vượt Biển – The Escape at 11:40am.
A Lion Dance kicks off at 12:10pm, and the afternoon rounds out with an Intercultural Performance from Australian Vietnamese Arts and Culture and Chin Myanmar Community Care Dance Group, a Dance Performance with Hoai Phuong and Asanti African Dance Group, and Bamboo dancing with Bach Viet Group at 1pm.
Beyond the performances, visitors can explore the Vietnamese Community Installation in the Atrium, which showcases stories from Vietnamese Australian pioneers, and drop into the Discovery Centre for hands-on activities.
Decorate a nón lá hat or add a flower and your story to the Hoa Mai Flower Wall. Round out the day with a Curator’s Talk at 2pm, where Cuc Lam shares her migrant journey.
Entry to the event is free, though it does not include general museum entry. Located in the Old Customs Building at 400 Flinders Street on the bank of Birrarung (Yarra River), Immigration Museum is accessible by public transport, bicycle or car.
