Raclette is kind of like the cooler older cousin of fondue. While the ooey-gooey dish is traditionally Swiss, it’s also enjoyed in other Alpine countries including France and Germany.

The word ‘raclette’ actually comes from the French word, meaning ‘to scrape’, as the creamy, Gryuere-like cheese is roasted on a pan before being scraped over top of boiled potatoes, cornichons and charcuterie.

It’s typically enjoyed with company during the festive winter season, or to help fuel up at an après-ski – as an homage, the fourteen igloos will each be named after different French ski resorts. When you get to the square, the French-speaking staff will help guide you through the experience.

Alongside your raclette, enjoy a glass of spiced mulled wine to help keep you warm. At the end of the meal, roast mega-marshmallows over the coal of your own private fire (which doubles as an extra source of heat).

At $99 per person, the Raclette Igloo Experience is a cosy way to celebrate the cold season in one of Melbourne’s most iconic locations.
