What a weekend. It felt like a bit of an honour to be able to squeeze myself into the totally sold out Smith Street Band shows at The Old Bar this weekend. God knows it’s pretty tricky for Melburnians to get their hands on tickets to see those guys these days. The Old Bar seemed gorgeously receptive to the weekend-long party too. Some of the best shows I’ve seen this winter have been at the beloved Johnson St haunt. May it be a port in the otherwise trendy, increasingly expensive Brunswick St shitstorm for many years to come. The social media vigilante style witch hunt (#ampgate) that took place on after one of Smith Street’s amps was nicked was pretty much the best excuse for Monday morning procrastination the internet has ever seen. I can’t actually wrap my tiny little skull around the kind of attitude that could prompt someone to pick up someone else’s stuff and saunter out the door, tingling with adrenalin and giddy with glee at their marvelous personal gain. I know theft in general is unforgiveable, but theft from musicians feels on par with stealing other people’s booze out of the bathtub at a house party. That I was drinking homebrand UDLs implies that i am broke! Robbing from the poor is never okay.

Righto so you were planning on seeing Twelve Foot Ninja at the The Corner Hotel before they dart off to Europe? Then you’ll also get to see Caligula’s Horse and Toehider.  Anberlin have revealed that Masketta Fall will join them on their entire Australian tour, along with The Maine and William Beckett.

Want to get your camp on the New Years Eve? Falls is boasting a lineup that consists of The Roots, Rufus, Violent Femmes and The Wombats. This year you can travel to Tasmania, Byron Bay or Lorne. You are officially spoilt for choice.

Cory Brannan, country-folk rock-alt legend is touring Australia this year. You can’t get tickets to see him at Poison City Weekender anymore so go check him out at The Reverence on Friday September 20 with Darren Gibson and Lincoln LeFevre.

Yes there is a CBGBs movie coming and yes it looks like total shit. If you see the trailer for the upcoming movie then do not waste your bandwidth.  Despite the presence of Alan Rickman and Freddy Rodriguez it also stars Taylor Hawkins (yes, of Foo Fighters fame) and a bird who looks like she’s fresh off the Twilight set (Ashley Greene?) trying really desperately to evoke their inner heroin-addled 70s gutterpunks . Gross.

Be warned that the first Melbourne Me First and The Gimme Gimme’s show has gone and sold the hell out just weeks after it first went on sale. Only tickets to the Sunday October 6 show remain. Get a move on if you want to catch these guys.
