This is Mazzy Star meets The xx – dreamy, lush, ambient sounds. The echo laden vocals evoke ‘90s Portishead and Brit indie-pop shoegaze at its best. This is Sunday morning fare – perfectly hangover friendly, maybe even ‘headphones on, walking home after a big night out.’ Get lost in it, wrap yourself up in it, embrace the gorgeousness without irony.
Each Time You Fall In Love is heavenly, a luscious wall of keyboards framing angelic, melancholy vocals. In fact, each of the tracks on the EP is luscious and melancholy. It’s consistent without being boring. “Come on and haunt me,” invites Apocalypse and indeed, you’ll be thinking the same thing.
This isn’t going to land on a dancefloor – it’s really a soundtrack for being alone. Perhaps, on a very long road trip, perhaps after a break up, perhaps with eyeliner smeared down your teary cheeks. It’s just that sort of sweet sadness that can’t be shared.
The revival of Twin Peaks along with the penchant for ripped, pale denim jeans and Doc Martens has certainly hailed a ‘90s revival that refuses to end. It’s romantic and catchy enough to lure in the teens without rotting their teeth with sugary emptiness. Bite in. Then light up.
