The album commences with the track Crucify Me, which introduces its conceptual theme – that heaven and hell exist inside us all

It Never Ends – the first single to be lifted from metal-core act Bring Me The Horizon’s brand new album – is simultaneously heavy and emotional. Featuring catchy keys and choir vocals, It Never Ends makes a strong impression – but it’s merely the beginning of a truly excellent release.

There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is A Heaven Lets Keep It A Secret is an unremittingly heavy, yet refreshingly creative, record with a constant intensity – one that’s maintained by interesting song structures, the addition of electronic flourishes, strings and the contrast of chugging and thundering distorted riffs with reverb-tinged clean guitars.

The album commences with the track Crucify Me, which introduces its conceptual theme – that heaven and hell exist inside us all and that we visit them in times of euphoria and during our darkest moments. Through his dark and brilliantly honest lyrics, vocalist Oli Sykes alludes to the idea that a guilty and regretful man exists in a hell of his own as he relates his struggle with his own subjective ‘demons’.

Anthem – a fast, punchy track – is guaranteed to make you move, and by the time Sykes demands “get the fuck up” you’re sure to be already be on your feet. Fuck begins at a similar pace, with both tracks utilizing well-placed group vocals to make such heavy songs surprisingly hooky. Josh Franceshci (You Me At Six) offers clean vocals on Fuck, transforming the song before it concludes. Don’t Go is enough to give you goose bumps, beginning with mournful strings, delayed clean guitars and soft snare rolls to build suspense. Sykes’ hoarse vocals perfectly convey the desperation of his lyrical subject matter, and the song climaxes with and a duet with female vocalist LIGHTS and a melodic lead break.

Home Sweet Hole once again uses clean and group vocals to create a hook amid the otherwise heavy onslaught of the track, and Alligator Blood, Vision and Blacklist deliver aggressive metal-core riffs. The album’s tenth track Memorial is an instrumental interval featuring organ and atmospheric sounds, while Blessed With A Curse strips back to soft bass lines and clean guitars during its verses before distortion bursts into the foreground for the chorus. Emotion peaks as the track progresses to a screaming lead break, and then eventuates to an almost jazzy sequence over jumpy delayed chords. The final track Fox And The Wolf throws out one last heavy attack.

If you already enjoy BMTH, this album will make you a fanatic; if you’re a hater you might just change your mind – and if somehow you’ve never heard of them it’s the perfect time to introduce yourself. That’s because There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is A Heaven Lets Keep It A Secret completelytranscends previous releases.
