HEY BRO… HOW IS LIFE IN THE E37 CAMP?

All’s well my friend. Currently hatching a plot for the release of our up coming DVD, film clip and writing for the new album.

YOU ARE A PRETTY DYNAMIC FRONT PERSON, WHO WERE THE TWO MAIN FRONT PERSON’S THAT MADE YOU THE PERFORMER THAT YOU ARE TODAY?

Firstly my Dad. I started touring the South Australian country music festivals with him and his band from about the age of six. Dad encouraged the showman in me and I won a lot of talent quests which helped with my confidence on stage a lot. Secondly, my Mum. Mum bought an old piano when I was about seven, and over the following few years I watched as Mum taught herself (and me) to play and sing using the music books my sister’s music teacher was supplying.

WHAT GET’S YOU UP EVERY MORNING AND MAKES YOU WANT TO CREATE MUSIC?

Morning? Generally I get home in the morning from a solo gig and tinker away if I’m feeling the vibe.

WHAT IS THE NEXT RELEASE ON THE CARDS FOR THE ENGINE BOYS?

As I mentioned, we’re working on our DVD so we’re pretty pumped about releasing that before the New Year.

YOU GUYS PUT ON A PRETTY SLICK LIVE SHOW BUT DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR WORST SHOW AND HAVE YOU RECOVERED FROM IT?

Ha. The worst show was at The Great Northern in Byron in 2004. The lads and I were all living together at a house in Bangalow (just outside Byron) and had been partying for a few days longer than we should have been. I had to be carried to the the van because apparently I wouldn’t wake up. I came to in Byron just in time for the gig, and we performed. Twas interesting. We refer to it as the ‘gig of which we shall not speak’. We chuckle about it now. As most of us don’t really remember actually being on stage that clearly, I dont think it affected the band too greatly. We just made a pact not to do it again.

Casey (Engine Three Seven) questions Mark (Bellusira)…

I heard you recently went to New Zealand for a holiday, how was it?

Being born in NZ it was great to get back and catch up with the family. Crystal and I spent a lot of our time driving up and down the country taking in the incredible landscapes. Mother Earth is a major influence on the album and spending this time amongst such breathtaking scenery is energising and inspiring.

You were hand picked as a finalist for the New Artists To Radio comp, how was that experience?

It was pretty amazing to find out that we were one of six bands in the country to be elected as a finalist for our single Closer to Me. We flew up to Sydney and had the opportunity to sit and meet with the directors of all the major commercial radio stations and to hear such positive feedback was really reassuring. We are excited to see how our album will be received when it’s released next year.

With all the different genres and trends going on in music these day, how does that affect your songwriting?

As a band we have always tried to stay true to ourselves regardless of what is happening out there. Music that evokes true emotion is what we care about and that overrides anything else.

Any new releases on the horizon?

We have been working hard in the studio of late recording our debut album and will release a single from it early next year.

Looking forward to sharing the stage at Creepshow, any surprises in store?

We will be pulling out some new songs that will find themselves on our album. Creepshow is a good excuse to take the theatrical element of our live show to the next level so we look forward to letting loose even more so than normal.
