Flying Fruit Fly Circus have announced a new feminist show 'Girls with Altitude' at Melbourne's Playhouse Theatre.

Featuring an all-female acrobatic cast from 10 to 18-years-old, the Flying Fruit Fly Circus is an extraordinary example of the athletic feats of young women, and it’s coming to Melbourne’s Playhouse Theatre with a brand new show on September 16 and 17 this year.

The acrobatic performances will be accompanied by visuals of political cartoons by renowned cartoonist and feminist Judy Horacek. Flips, tumbles and acrobatic elegance from dizzying heights will challenge any perceptions of circus as a male-dominated artform, with a performance that also adds humour to the usual mix of skill, strength, courage.

The Flying Fruit Fly Circus began in 1979 as a local circus project for school kids. Since then, the Fruities have tumbled their way into the hearts of millions of people throughout Australia and the world. Based in Albury-Wodonga, the Fruities not only perform, but also attend school at the Flying Fruit Fly Circus School and train up to 20 hours a week. The full time select-entry training program caters for children aged eight – 18 years old and includes dedicated circus skills development, bespoke fitness and conditioning programs.

Directed by Anni Davey, the production also features an array of aspirational themes, tackling all things from the environment to equality.
