60 Seconds With Jack Carty

“The band is Jack Carty, but you can call me Jack. I play guitar and sing and write songs and do most things really because I play solo.”

So then, what’s your name and what you ‘do’ in the band?

"The band is Jack Carty, but you can call me Jack. I play guitar and sing and write songs and do most things really because I play solo."

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

"Hopefully they will think I sound rad. Perhaps in a Bon Iver / Ben Gibbard / Paul Simon Kind of way?"

What do you love about making music?

"I want to be like that guy from Almost Famous here and say ‘Everything’ but instead I’m going to go with the communities it creates and the experiences it facilitates… most of all it’s just really fun."

What do you hate about the music industry?

"There is no industry super fund."

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

"1960’s Bob Dylan. I like to think we would be friends… Plus it would mean a trip to New York City and I love it there!"

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

"That guy who wrote that one song that Katy Perry, KE$HA and Rihanna have all released as separate singles recently."

What can a punter expect from your live show?

"Folk songs, stories, guitars, harmonica’s sing-along’s, beers and bare feet."

What ‘ve you got to sell CD-wise?

"My debut album One Thousand Origami Birds is available in stores and online on March 4. Until then there is always Hope (the first single off said album) and The Wine & Consequence EP."

When’s the gig and with who?

"At Yah Yah’s on Smith Street on Friday February 11 with Isaac Deheer and Justin Hunter! Get into it."

Anything else to add?

"Make sure you all look after one and other… jackcarty.com."
