Yuksek: Living On The Edge Of TIme

The inspiration was found in the loneliness of life spent at airports and alone in hotels, and the isolation of being in a packed club but knowing nobody. The triumph of this album is that the concepts of detachment and solitude are clearly delivered on a well structured framework of dancey beats and pop laden refrains. The downfall of this album is exactly the same; themes of boredom and numb introspection have created a rather banal and unappealing collection of jetlagged sounding pop-by-numbers. Gone are the festival destroying skuzzed up synths and bone crunching bass kicks, replaced by overdone yet watery vocals, and sparkly yet insipid melodies. You Should Talk was the most engaging and memorable track, but Yuksek, maybe you could just pretend that you enjoy traveling the world playing your music to legions of adoring fans.
