Boasting more than 200 events at locations all across Sydney.
After Vivid Sydney announced its return this year, following a year off due to you know who, the festival has just lifted the lid on its program for 2021.
Spanning the categories, Vivid Light, Vivid Ideas, Vivid Music, Vivid Live at Sydney Opera House, and their Up Late Series, Vivid will host more than 200 events across it’s three-week August journey.

The Vivid Music category is jam-packed and will see a number of obscure venues brought to life with live music. This includes Sydney’s Hyde Park Barracks, The Calyx – Royal Botanic Garden, Luna Park, The Bearded Tit and Parliament House.
Carriageworks will also be a home for live music, welcoming everyone from King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard to Akosia, Jesswar, Tropical Fuck Storm, BARKAA and rapidly-rising punks Amyl & The Sniffers.
Elsewhere, Ngaiire will perform from Parliament House, the Heaps Gay: Kween’s Ball will take over Luna Park, where the dark-pop allure of Mia Rodriguez will be on show. The El Gran Mono vs The Inner West Disco Machine is an all-day dance party at Hyde Park Barracks to the sounds of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the roots of sound system culture in these regions.
Looking at the Vivid Live at Sydney Opera House section of the bill, Sampa The Great will be debuting her new show An Afro Future, an event that will see her perform tracks from her seminal debut album, The Return.
Flight Facilities will take to Sydney Opera House’s Northern Broadwalk, Golden Features will appear alongside Hermitude, while Gareth Liddiard, Jim White and Chris Abrahams will perform together as Springtime in the Joan Sutherland Theatre. They’ll be playing tracks from their forthcoming debut album.
Then there’s the contribution from revered local legends Astral People, who, to celebrate their 10th birthday, have curated events replete with slots from Hiatus Kaiyote, Genesis Owusu, Cashmere Cat, Milan Ring and more on the Broadwalk.
And that’s just the start. Through Vivid Light, punters will witness 50 immersive and kinetic light installations and projection artworks, and hear powerful stories of resilience in the process, among many other otherworldly luminescent events.
Vivid Ideas will consist of talks from Jameela Jamil alongside Jamila Rizvi, Magda Szubanski alongside Julia Baird, Sarah Wilson alongside Dr Norman Swan, and Briggs alongside Nat’s What I Reckon.
The Up Late Series brings live music, late-night talks, DJs, performances and art to venues across the city, including Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Australian Museum, Powerhouse Museum, and the Australian National Maritime Museum.
