Triple R’s Radiothon kicks off this Friday

Radiothon

One Station Under A Groove: Triple R's Radiothon returns 6am Friday 26 August - 5pm Wednesday 5 October

Radiothon is Triple R’s most important fundraising period for the year, the time Melbourne’s beloved community radio station asks those who have the means to do so, to dig deep and subscribe and donate.

Established in 1976, Triple R runs on the goodwill, hard work, passion and dedication of hundreds of volunteers and a small team of staff, plus the generosity of subscribers, donors and sponsors who fund the station. It’s completely independent, which allows them to provide a platform for music, culture and opinions that may otherwise never get heard on radio.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

This year’s Radiothon theme is the rather catchy ‘One Station Under A Groove’. After two Radiothons spent in lockdown, the RRRs are celebrating opening their doors again to the community – the volunteers, subscribers, listeners and friends of the station – and Radiothon comes shortly after the station’s announcement that they’re resuming their much-loved Friday gigs for subscribers (Cash Savage was first up).

“Triple R never went away, thanks to our amazingly talented and committed volunteer presenters,” station manager Dave Houchin says.

“We were always in your ear holes, right through the pandemic and successive lockdowns. But like so many places, we haven’t been in your face for a couple of years due to social distancing and so now we’re really focused on rebuilding that genuine in-person togetherness.

“We recently launched our newest show, Live At RRR, which is produced and presented by a different Triple R presenter each week in the Triple R Performance Space in front of a live audience of Subscribers every Friday at 7pm. It is a dedicated place for live presented performances and conversations, conveniently scheduled in time for your Friday knock-offs.

“The amazing bands to grace the stage so far are Cash Savage And The Last Drinks, Party Dozen, CLAMM, Jen Cloher, HTRK and Izy. Names that speak for themselves. Over the first two Fridays of Radiothon we’re thrilled to have The Stroppies and Kylie Auldist join us in the Performance Sapce for a couple of extra special Radiothon editions of Live at RRR!

“Thank you so much to all of the artists, and our volunteers and staff for making this happen – we are officially One Station Under A Groove!”

Radiothon kicks off from 6am Friday 26 August. The first ten days of the campaign – Friday 26 August to Sunday 4 September, features Radiothon programming exclusively, including exciting guests such as Wil Anderson, Our Carlson, Catherine Deveny, Richard Denniss, Sam Lane, YL Hooi, Chloe Hooper and Mark Seymour, live performances from Kylie Auldist, Emma Russack, The Stroppies and Marlon Williams, the return of loads of their beloved former broadcasters, sensational surprises, and much much more.

The entire Radiothon campaign runs until 5pm Wednesday 5 October. Everyone who subscribes between August 26 and October 5 automatically goes in the draw to win an outstanding list of prizes, including: a 5-day tour of Tasmania from Intrepid Travel, a long lunch at Brae Restaurant, $2,000 worth of Crumpler bags, and more.

And every Radiothon subscriber will receive a special 2022 edition bumper sticker, featuring the classic RRR logo with some added funkadelic vibes.

People can subscribe and donate anytime during Radiothon via the Triple R website: rrr.org.au.
