Stressed at work? The Immigration Museum is hosting free lunchtime meditation sessions

Immigration Museum will open its doors every Wednesday from September 14 to November 30 for free meditation and relaxation sessions.

Wellbeing Within offers city workers and dwellers the opportunity to slow down and relax with free meditation, movement, sound healing and more from Wednesday 14 September to 30 November.

Immigration Museum will open its doors every Wednesday to offer a range of morning, afternoon and evening programs and activities that will help the community reset and connect with themselves and the wider world.   

As part of the September program, a selection of free activities has been developed specifically for women and girls to tie in with ‘This Girl Can’ Week. October and November program details will be announced next month.  

September Wellbeing Within program

Mindful Mornings
Date & Time: 8.00 – 8.45am, Wednesday 14, 21 and 28 September 

Start your day with clarity through guided morning meditations led by our September meditator in residence, Dr Nurin Veis.  

Nurin is an accredited yoga, Himalayan breathwork and meditation teacher with over ten years’ experience in Vedic mantra-based meditation. 

This Girl Can Plaza Dance 
Date & Time: 12.30 – 1.15pm, Wednesday 14 September

Try something new during This Girl Can Week and embrace the choreographed moves of Chinese Square Dancing, led by our original dancing aunties, or “Dama” (大妈), a troupe of local women credited for bringing guangchang wu to Melbourne over a decade ago. Plaza dancing has been praised for providing a way for people of all ages, especially women, to exercise, socialise and connect. 

This Girl Can Tai Chi
Date & Time: 5.30 – 6.15pm, Wednesday 14 September

During This Girl Can Week try Tai Chai. Tai Chai is known to stimulate energy generation and promote unity of mind and body. This customised movement workshop designed to support health and wellbeing will be led by Helen Simmonds. 

Helen is an experienced Tai Chi and Qigong practitioner and teacher. Assistant instructors, Anne and Kathy will support Helen. Helen’s empathetic and personal teaching style embraces women of all ages and abilities to experience tai chi and qigong movements that promote their mental and physical health. 

Fluid Movement
Date & Time: 12.30 – 1.15pm, Wednesday 21 September

Move your body and calm your mind with lunchtime Tai Chi led by Lily Sun, an expert Wushu, Tai Chi and Qigong master with over 40 years teaching experience across China and Australia. 

Liquid Dance
Date & Time: 12.30 – 1.15pm, Wednesday 21 September

Balance the natural energy within your mind, body, and spirit, with lunchtime Qigong led by Lily Sun, an expert Wushu, Tai Chi and Qigong master with over 40 years teaching experience across China and Australia. 

Sound Healing
Date & Time: 5.30 – 6.30pm, Wednesday 14 September

A deeply relaxed listening experience combining Tibetan and crystal singing bowls, gong and other instruments creating immersive healing vibrations, led by holistic wellness practitioner Abby Lee.
