The Smile have officially released their new album, Cutouts, through XL Recordings and Remote Control Records.

The trio, consisting of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner, has released two new singles from the album today: Foreign Spies and Zero Sum, the latter accompanied by a visually stunning video directed by audiovisual artist Weirdcore.

Earlier in the year, the band also unveiled previously released tracks from the album, Don’t Get Me Started and The Slip. The Smile debuted several songs from Cutouts during their UK tour in March, generating anticipation for this latest project.

Cutouts features ten new tracks and is produced by Sam Petts-Davies. This marks the band’s third studio album, following Wall of Eyes, which was released in January. The trio’s debut album, A Light For Attracting Attention, came out in 2022. Both albums were recorded in Oxford and at Abbey Road Studios during the same period as Wall of Eyes. Notably, Cutouts includes string arrangements by the London Contemporary Orchestra, and the album artwork was created by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke during the recording process.

The Smile’s previous album, Wall of Eyes, debuted at number three on the UK album charts and received accolades such as “Best Album of the Year so far” from Pitchfork, The Needle Drop, Consequence, Brooklyn Vegan, Treblezine, and Spin.

In addition to The Smile, each member has been pursuing individual projects. Thom Yorke released the original score for Daniele Luchetti’s film Confidenza and announced solo tour dates across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Japan. Jonny Greenwood premiered a new work titled X Years of Reverb at the historic Octagon Chapel in Norwich and is currently composing the score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film, The Battle of Baktan Cross. Tom Skinner recently released Voices of Bishara Live at ‘mu’ and is touring the jazz summer festival circuit with his own solo music.
