The 2024 Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) took place last night in Meanjin/Brisbane, recognising outstanding contributions by women in the Australian music industry.

Hosted by Yumi Stynes and Sarah McLeod, the event celebrated leaders, legends, and emerging talents in the field.

Geelong-based music photographer and educator Lucinda Goodwin took home the prestigious Hotel X Music Photographer Award, while fellow Geelong native and APRA AMCOS Songwriter Award recipient, Annika Schmarsel—better known as Alice Ivy—was also recognised. Alice Ivy, a former winner of the AWMA Studio Production Award in 2022, continues to make her mark on the industry.

Over 450 music industry leaders, artists, and guests attended the event at The Fortitude Music Hall, which featured performances by notable artists including Sarah Blasko, Kasey Chambers, Mo’Ju, Nina Korbe, Sarah McLeod, Katie Noonan & Karin Schaupp, Karen Lee Andrews, and Emily Wurramara.

In total, 21 awards were presented. Among the highlights, Kasey Chambers received the Universal Music Australia Lifetime Achievement Award, while Dame Joan Sutherland and Patricia ‘Little Pattie’ Amphlett were inducted into the AWMA Honour Roll.

Founding Executive Producer and Program Director Vicki Gordon highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by women and gender-diverse individuals in the music industry. She emphasised the importance of gender equality and the need for focused efforts to address the barriers that persist for women, First Nations artists, and minorities across the industry.
