The festival is loaded with over 60 unique events encompassing dance, music, visual art, theatre, film, and talks. Redefining notions of Indigenous art and performance, the festival covers spaces throughout Melbourne including laneways, public spaces and venues.
“Yirramboi First Nations Arts Festival is an unprecedented opportunity to reframe perceptions and shape a new dialogue about Indigenous arts in Australia and around the world,” says Festival Creative Director Jacob Boehme.
“We are excited to create a city-wide ‘blak out’ when local and international Indigenous dancers, musicians, visual artists, performers and arts leaders gather in Melbourne this May. Yirramboi is also a festival for everyone, with a diverse program of events that will appeal to people of all ages, tastes and walks of life.”
Bringing together First Nation visionaries from across the globe, highlights include a city-wide treasure hunt, a program of concerts honouring the legacy of Aunty Ruby Hunter, participatory circus and theatre, a full moon party, workshops, an intimate performance from Archie Roach and a whole lot more.
