Chunky Move's iconic dance work Glow is returning to Melbourne for a special anniversary season this May.
Twenty years after it first blew minds at Melbourne Festival, Glow, Chunky Move’s landmark fusion of contemporary dance and interactive technology, is back for a limited run as part of the Australian Dance Biennale and RISING.
Originally choreographed by Chunky Move co-founder Gideon Obarzanek, the work went on to become Australia’s most widely-toured contemporary dance work, clocking up 43 seasons across more than 40 cities worldwide.

For the uninitiated, Glow is a 27-minute solo performance where a single dancer mutates through human, sensual and monstrous states while motion-tracking technology responds to their every move in real time with luminous beams of light.
It’s a hypnotic duet between body and machine, and in 2026, that premise feels more alive than ever. The work picked up Helpmann Awards for Best Female Dancer and Best Dance Work, and even inspired the visuals for Kylie Minogue’s Get Outta My Way clip. Its interactive software designer Frieder Weiss worked on both.
This revival is helmed by current Chunky Move artistic director Antony Hamilton, with Weiss returning to Melbourne to oversee the season himself.
Each night features one of three rotating performers: original Glow dancer Sara Black, Chunky Move company member Melissa Pham, and Sydney-based independent artist Layla Meadows.
That rotating cast means no two shows are quite the same, which is a pretty good reason to go more than once.
