The Wheeler Centre has established itself as a cultural institution which promotes the discussion and practice of writing. Each year they present a range of lectures, debates and readings dedicated to books, writing and ideas.

The Centre’s new program, which begins on May 2, includes some noteworthy appearances in a range of events. On the second day of the program the Wheeler Centre will host The Writer’s Banquet which explores the connection between food and writing. The event is set to feature authors Toni Jordan (Fall Girl, Addition), Morris Gleitzman (Once, Boy Overboard, Gift of the Gab) and Andrea Goldsmith (Under the Knife, The Prosperous Thief, Modern Interiors) covering a range of culinary topics from what they like to eat while writing, to how childhood memories of food influence their work today.

The program also includes talks from other major authors including detective fiction writer Michael Connelly, Pulitizer Prize-winner Michael Cunningham (The Hours), politician and former hostage Ingrid Betancourt and multi-award-winning journalists and authors Amos Oz (A Tale of Love and Darkness) and Thomas Friendman (who has won three Pulitizer Prizes).

Then there’s author of The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet David Mitchell and anti-porn activist Gail Dines best known for her book Pornland. In fact there’s too many to mention here so you can check them out at The Wheeler Centre’s site.

The new program runs from May 2 to August 25 at The Wheeler Centre on Little Lonsdale Street. Tickets are available online at wheelercentre.com.
