The Indigo Children

Your debut album New Light came out in 2009. How has The Indigo Children grown since?

We’ve pushed as hard as we can – selling over 3,000 tickets to shows in the last 18 months. We’ve realised growing our fan base organically is the best chance we have to create a sustainable career – meaning we earn every fan, one at a time. There’s been a lot of writing and working out of a proper stage show. Our new single Between The Lines marks a new direction.

You’re playing shows in NSW, South Australia, hopefully with other dates to be announced nationally. You have supported some rather incredible acts, too.

Yeah, we’ve been very fortunate to have supported so many amazing artists. Can’t really decide on who takes the cake but personally, I would say Dragon, Diesel and Evermore were a total trip. Midnight Youth from NZ, too, love those guys.

Then what?

We will be heading to the studio to record our second studio album. The majority of the tracks have been written and tested successfully live, so we know they work. We are super excited for this album, especially with two new members bringing an amazing feel to the tracks.

Have you left yourselves room to move in the studio, creatively?

There is always some magic that happens in those walls creatively. We always bounce ideas around before we decide on the direction of each track.

And the year ahead?

We’ve already released a new single and film clip on this tour and we’ve plans to tour nationally, release another film clip and album. Possibly secure management, and get overseas to tour in 2012
