The Buegs

“Saturday January 29 at The Toff In Town. We’re releasing a special limited edition split single with Canos supported by Language Of The Birds. Bring your ‘22’s and dancing shoes’, it’s gonna be HUGE!”

What’s your name and the name of your band?

“Dan, The Buegs.”

And what do you do in the band?

“I play guitar, sing and write songs.”

Who else have you and your band worked closely with?

“We’re good friends with Canos and had heaps of fun with I Heart Cusack. Sam Lowe from Salt Studios recorded us recently, he’s a champion!”

When did you start the band or did it just stumble upon you?

“Late 2009 I asked my brothers and Dr Stubert to jam on some numbers I had collected over the years. I’d written most of it as sample-based electronic music, but these dudes thought they sounded better with some twang…so we folkified it and gave birth to The Buegs.”

What was the driving force behind the idea?

“An old N12 engine from a blue 1986 Holden Astra named Henri.”

Where did the name come from?

“I’m guessing somewhere in Ringwood but I heard some dudes from the Hursty line say it once.”

Do you think you’ve achieved what you set out to do?

“Yes and no. We play a kick-arse high-energy show, but the funding for the flack jackets hasn’t been approved… so I generally aim away from the body.”

What makes you happiest about what you’re doing?

“Working with my brothers and telling stories that speak to people. Making good quality art is very rewarding and contributing to Melbourne’s music scene is a special privilege. That makes me happy.”

If you weren’t playing music, you would be…

“Starting production on a film we wrote for Stu. It concerns a telephone, camping chair and ten minutes of anxious nudity.”

How do you find time to work with so many musicians?

“Stay up late and live near a place that has good dumplings.”

When are you doing your thing next?

“Saturday January 29 at The Toff In Town. We’re releasing a special limited edition split single with Canos supported by Language Of The Birds. Bring your ‘22’s and dancing shoes’, it’s gonna be HUGE!”
