I could be wrong, but I got the sense that Wally De Backer was a bit miffed that The Basics didn’t quite lift off after the success of Like Drawing Blood. Now the Melbourne three-piece make a fully-fledged return after Wally’s global Gotye superstardom with a more relaxed air about them, seemingly resigned to a dearth of J-play. Wally’s vocal chops lift the loose blues stomper So Hard For You above the lower-to-mid pub echelon, but only just. Still, it’s undeniably good fun.
