Still, this unapologetic gothic rock melodrama is actually really successful, if taken as performance art rather than pop. In the same way that Nick Cave once wrote lurid, convincing pulp characters into his songs, these guys have created an androgynous, neurotic sex-pot in a world of sleaze, and their schtick is fairly seamless.
