One Good Shirt Got Us All Fly is Spit Syndicate’s fourth studio album and their self-proclaimed strongest work yet. I don’t want to call them liars, so I won’t. This album has some serious chops to it.
MCs Nick Lupi and Jimmy Nice are well-known for their bravado and in-your-face style, and the effortless manner in which they spit out rhymes in tandem. All this is on display here, kicking in with the slick intro track Birds of a Feather. Late nights out, over-imbibing, and romantic misadventures are recurring themes throughout the album, however perhaps the most powerful track is the unusually political Not in My Name featuring the soaring, soulful vocals of Radical Son.
This album is peppered with killer collaborations, including the likes of Remi, Thelma Plum, and the One Day clique. The one downfall is the over-emphasis on the outro interludes throughout. This perhaps could’ve done with the ol’ snipping tool. That aside, here’s hoping One Good Shirt finally delivers Spit Syndicate the broader attention they deserve.
